STAMFORD, Conn. – Nov. 15, 2016 – Two of the NHL’s biggest stars of the past decade clash on Wednesday Night Rivalry this week, when Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals host Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

This week’s NHL coverage on NBCSN begins tonight with an Atlantic Division showdown, when Dylan Larkin and the Detroit Red Wings host Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning at 7:30 p.m. ET.

NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app — NBC Sports Group’s live streaming platforms for desktops, mobile devices, tablets, and connected TVs — will provide live streaming coverage of Penguins-Capitals and Lightning-Red Wings.

Four-time Emmy Award-winner Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick (play-by-play), U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member Eddie Olczyk, and Emmy Award-winner Pierre McGuire (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will call Penguins-Capitals tomorrow night from Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. Rick Peckham (play-by-play) and Brian Boucher (Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will have the call of Lightning-Red Wings tonight from Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich.

Pre-game coverage begins tonight and Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. ET with NHL Live on NBCSN. Liam McHugh anchors Wednesday Night Rivalry studio coverage with analysts Mike Milbury and Keith Jones, as well as NHL insider Bob McKenzie. Post-game coverage on NHL Overtime will air on NBCSN immediately following both games.


WEDNESDAY NIGHT RIVALRY
– PENGUINS-CAPITALS – TOMORROW AT 7:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

Pittsburgh and Washington both enter this week’s Wednesday Night Rivalry matchup with strong records to open the 2016-17 season. Pittsburgh (10-3-2, 22 pts) currently sits in second place in the Metropolitan Division, two points behind the Rangers (12-4-0, 24 pts) and three ahead of Washington (9-4-1, 19 pts). The defending Stanley Cup champions are 7-1-1 in their past nine games, and they’ve been led offensively by Crosby, who is off to one of the hottest starts of his career. Pittsburgh’s captain is tied for second in the NHL with 10 goals in just nine games played.

The Capitals are 6-2-0 in their past eight games, including a 3-2 overtime win in Chicago on Friday night, but also a 5-1 loss to the Hurricanes in Raleigh on Saturday. Ovechkin is tied for the team lead in goals (7). Washington plays the Blue Jackets in Columbus tonight before hosting the Penguins on Wednesday. The two teams opened the season against each other last month in Pittsburgh, with the Penguins winning by a score of 3-2 in a shootout.

LIGHTNING-RED WINGS – TONIGHT AT 7:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

Tampa Bay (9-6-1, 19 pts) has been led offensively by Steven Stamkos, who has 19 points (8g/11a) in 16 games, tied for second in the league in the category. The Red Wings (8-7-1, 17 pts) have had a balanced offensive attack to begin the season. Dylan Larkin leads the club with five goals, while another six players have tallied at least three goals. Tampa Bay defeated Detroit on opening night by a score of 6-4 in Tampa, as six different skaters scored for the Lightning.


MATTHEWS VS. MCDAVID – NBCSN ADDS MAPLE LEAFS-OILERS GAME ON TUESDAY, NOV. 29

NBCSN has added an NHL game to its schedule that will feature two of the league’s top young superstars, when 2016 No.1 overall pick Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs visit 2015 No. 1 overall pick Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday, Nov. 29. NBCSN will join Maple Leafs-Oilers in progress (circa 10 p.m. ET) immediately following originally-scheduled coverage of Bruins-Flyers at 7:30 p.m. ET.

This is the second game this season that NBCSN has added to its original schedule of a record 106 NHL regular-season games. Following Auston Matthews’ four-goal outburst in his NHL debut, NBCSN added the Maple Leafs’ home opener against Boston on Oct. 15.
