2016 Notre Dame Football on NBC Home Games to Be Presented in 4K UHD

STAMFORD, Conn. – October 13, 2016 – NBC Sports Group continues its 26th season of Notre Dame Football on NBC this Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. ET, when the Fighting Irish host the Stanford Cardinal in a primetime matchup at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Ind.

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly and the Fighting Irish (2-4) enter Saturday’s game following a 10-3 loss against North Carolina State. Stanford head coach David Shaw and the Cardinal (3-2) visit South Bend following a 42-16 loss against Washington State.

Saturday’s matchup marks the 20th consecutive season that Notre Dame and Stanford have met, dating back to 1997. The Fighting Irish hold a 19-11 all-time lead in the series, despite victories from the Cardinal in five of the previous seven meetings, including Stanford’s 38-36 win last season in Palo Alto, Calif. Half of the 30 all-time meetings between Notre Dame and Stanford have been decided by 10 points or less.

The rivalry between the two teams began with the Rose Bowl in 1925, when Knute Rockne’s Fighting Irish defeated Pop Warner’s Cardinal team 27-10 for their first ever national title. Since 1989, the winner of the game has been awarded the Legends Trophy, made of an Irish crystal glass and California redwood base.

Dan Hicks (@DanHicksNBC) calls Saturday night’s game alongside 1984 Heisman Trophy Winner and analyst Doug Flutie (@DougFlutie), and sideline reporter Kathryn Tappen (@KathrynTappen).

Liam McHugh (@liam_mchugh) will host pre-game and halftime coverage on NBC, as well as postgame on NBCSN. McHugh will be joined by 11-year NFL veteran and former University of Michigan LB Dhani Jones (@DhaniJones). In addition, former Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen (@JimmyClausen) will join McHugh and Jones as a guest analyst for pre-game, halftime and postgame studio coverage.
