STAMFORD, Conn. September 27, 2016 – Following this weekend’s pivotal NASCAR Sprint Cup race from Dover International Speedway, NBC Sports presents Kyle & Rut’s Racing Roots, featuring Kevin Harvick Sunday at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN. In the entertaining and heartwarming special, Kevin Harvick brings Kyle Petty and Rutledge Wood back to where his love for racing took shape in his hometown of Bakersfield, Calif.

The special 30-minute documentary showcases the understated beginnings and unlikely geography that sprouted the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion, and how Harvick and his family continue to inspire and encourage young minds. The show includes special appearances by Harvick’s high school wrestling coach, family and friends including MLB Hall of Famer, Cal Ripken Jr.

“It was great to bring Kyle and Rut back to where it all began for me,” said Kevin Harvick, driver of the No. 4 Chevrolet for Stewart-Haas Racing. “Just for the fact that it took hard work and a lot of people to get me where I am today and I hope this helps inspire others to dream without boundaries and go out and chase those dreams.”

A preview of Sunday’s special is available here. Below are excerpts from Kyle & Rut’s Racing Roots featuring Kevin Harvick.

Rutledge Wood: “Kevin Harvick’s roots stretch back across the country where he draws upon life experiences he learned amid the desert of Kern County Calif. Wrestling forced Kevin to persevere. The southern California racing culture taught him sacrifice. Oildale gave him character. Now Kevin is showing others, who can identify with his experience, how to drive toward their own dreams.”

Harvick’s high school wrestling Coach Rick McKinney: “(Kevin) was just a tough tenacious guy, lean, lanky and awkward but, just tough.”
