STAMFORD, Conn. – August 7, 2016 – NBC’s primetime coverage of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad continues tomorrow, Monday, August 8, at 8 p.m. ET/PT, as U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian in history, looks to avenge a 2012 second-place finish in the men’s 200m butterfly, while U.S. swimmers Katie Ledecky and Missy Franklin square off in the women’s 200m freestyle.

In addition, gymnastics coverage heats up as four-time U.S. all-around champion Sam Mikulak leads the U.S. men in their quest for redemption in Rio after finishing fifth in London. American diver David Boudia seeks to improve upon his London bronze in the men’s synchronized platform final with new partner Steele Johnson. After winning their opening match in straight sets, Kerri Walsh Jennings and new partner April Ross return to the sand in pool play of the women’s beach volleyball tournament.

Team USA basketball highlights NBCSN’s coverage on Monday, August 8, as the women tip off against Spain at 11 a.m. ET, and the men face Venezuela at 6 p.m. ET. NBCSN’s coverage also includes gold medal finals for women’s individual sabre fencing at 3 p.m. ET, featuring American fencers Mariel Zagunis, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, and Ibtihaj Muhammad, who will become the first Muslim-American to compete in a hijab at the Olympics.

Telemundo offers a feast of Olympic volleyball, tennis and boxing on Monday, including the women’s beach volleyball match between Brazil and Argentina at Noon ET. NBC UNIVERSO airs the swimming qualifying, women’s volleyball, basketball and boxing, beginning at 3 p.m. ET.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 9

Women’s team gymnastics headlines Tuesday’s primetime coverage on NBC, as three-time reigning world all-around champion Simone Biles looks to lead the U.S. team to consecutive titles in the women’s team competition at 8 p.m. ET.

Over at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium, Ledecky and Franklin go for the gold in the 200m freestyle and Phelps gets a rematch against London winner Chad le Clos of South Africa in the men’s 200m fly final. In addition, Ryan Lochte makes his Rio debut as helps the U.S. vie for a fourth consecutive gold in the men’s 4x200m free relay. Maya DiRado, who won silver in the 400m individual medley on Day 1, goes for her second medal in Rio in the 200m IM.

Co-captain Carli Lloyd and the U.S. women’s soccer team takes the field against Colombia at 6 p.m. ET Tuesday on NBCSN, followed by gold medal finals in judo and weightlifting at 8 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

On Tuesday, USA Network hosts live coverage of equestrian team jumping at 9 a.m. ET, while CNBC airs live coverage of men’s rugby as the U.S. faces Brazil at 5 p.m. ET.

Telemundo brings five hours of Olympic action starting at 10:30 a.m. ET with swimming, diving, boxing and gymnastics.   • Basketball – The Australian men’s basketball team faces Serbia in a Group A prelim. Australia boasts a talented backcourt, led by NBA guards Matthew Dellavedova and Patty Mills, but the Boomers’ last Olympic run ended with a 33-point quarterfinal blowout loss to Team USA in London.

CNBC HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Rugby – Women’s rugby has returned to the Olympic program in the form of sevens, featuring seven players a side on a full rugby pitch, which makes for a fast-paced and (typically) high-scoring game. Australia, who has been the class of women’s sevens and eliminated the U.S. in the quarterfinal, looks to advance to the gold medal final.
