ORLANDO, Fla. (August 2, 2016) – The PGA TOUR is in Connecticut for the Travelers Championship, where Bubba Watson will defend his 2015 title before traveling to Brazil to compete in the men’s golf competition at the Rio Olympics. Watson is one of six players in the field at the Travelers Championship who will be competing in Rio: Alex Cejka (Germany), Padraig Harrington (Ireland), Soren Kjeldsen (Denmark), Matt Kuchar (United States), Patrick Reed (United States). The PGA TOUR Champions are in Minnesota for the 3M Championship, where Kenny Perry will attempt to win the event for the third consecutive year, alongside Bernhard Langer, Miguel Angel Jimenez and John Daly also in the field. On Saturday, the 3M Championship will stage the “Greats of Golf Challenge” for the fourth consecutive year, headlined by Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Annika Sorenstam and Nancy Lopez. And the European Tour is in Scotland for the Paul Lawrie Match Play, a 64-man single-elimination bracket-style competition.

Six Olympians in the field for final test before traveling to Rio: Six Olympians are in the field at the Travelers Championship, as golf prepares to make its return to the Olympic Games for the first time in more than 100 years. The six in the field this week who will represent their country in the men’s Olympic competition (August 11-14) include: Alex Cejka (Germany), Padraig Harrington (Ireland); Soren Kjeldsen (Denmark); Matt Kuchar (United States), Patrick Reed (United States) and Bubba Watson (United States).
New event date being utilized to accommodate Olympics: The Travelers Championship has moved from its typical June date to accommodate the Olympics and is being played in the month of August for the first time since 2005.
Watson defends: Bubba Watson outlasted Paul Casey with a par on the second playoff hole to earn his eighth career PGA TOUR victory.
