Golf Channel Digital to Offer Live Blog for One-Stop Destination for All Things Surrounding the PGA Championship

ORLANDO, Fla. (July 25, 2016) – Golf Channel has announced its programming plans for the 2016 PGA Championship, taking place July 25-31 at Baltusrol Golf Club (N.J.), 20 miles west of New York City. Led by Golf Central Live From the PGA Championship, Golf Channel will provide more than 50 total hours of live news coverage throughout the week.

Originating entirely from a dedicated set positioned with the clubhouse and practice area as the backdrop, Golf Central Live From the PGA Championship will kick off today, July 25, and continue through Sunday, July 31. Kelly Tilghman (primetime) and Ryan Burr will share hosting duties, while Brandel Chamblee, David Duval, Frank Nobilo, Notah Begay, Mark Rolfing and Michael Breed will serve as analysts. Golf Channel Insiders Tim Rosaforte, Rex Hoggard and Ken Schofield along with award-winning author John Feinstein will offer insight and storylines to follow on players in the field, while Steve Burkowski and Todd Lewis will provide reports from inside the ropes and conduct player interviews.

A Profile on Billy Hurley III: Following his maiden PGA TOUR victory at the Quicken Loans National last month, Billy Hurley III is having his best season as a professional to date and will make his PGA Championship debut this week. Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis sat down with Hurley in an emotion-evoking interview where the two discuss the influence of Hurley’s time spent in school at the Naval Academy, his career trajectory and how he’s learning to cope with the tragic and unexpected loss of his father.
Daly’s Unthinkable 1991 PGA Championship Victory as the Ninth Alternate: One of the more unpredictable victories in major championship golf history, John Daly’s 1991 PGA Championship win in reality should have never had the chance to play out the way it did. Daly entered the week as the ninth alternate in the field, with the slimmest of chances to even tee it up in Thursday’s opening round, let alone have the opportunity to ultimately become the victor. The piece includes interview footage with each of the eight players who stood ahead of Daly on the alternate list, and offers perspective on the unprecedented sequence of events that led to Daly ultimately hoisting the Wanamaker trophy.
In a Long List of Golf Course Architecture Gems for Tillinghast, Baltusrol Helped Pave the Way: Inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2015 for his architectural contributions to the game, A.W. Tillinghast’s designs include a stable of renowned golf courses which include Winged Foot, Bethpage Black, Baltusrol, Philadelphia Cricket Club and Aronimink. Matt Ginella explores why Baltusrol served as an integral design for Tillinghast and helped contribute to a legacy of the man who had a hand in working on more than 260 golf courses over the course of his life.

Morning Drive

Morning Drive will kick off each day of PGA Championship week with the latest news and storylines surrounding the competition. The show will feature live reports from Baltusrol beginning Wednesday with Gary Williams, Charlie Rymer and Matt Ginella, who will be joined by other guests throughout the week, including:

The Golf Fix

Hosted by 2012 PGA Professional Teacher of the Year Michael Breed, The Golf Fix will air live on Monday, July 25 at 6 p.m. ET from the driving range at Baltusrol Golf Club. Joining Breed on the show will be Tour professionals Andrew “Beef” Johnston and Daniel Summerhays, who will be accompanied by his cousin (and PGA Professional) Joe Summerhays. 2016 PGA Professional National Championship winner Rich Berberian also will take part in the show. Junior golfers representing The First Tee of Plainfield along with the Plainfield West Nine Junior League will serve as a live audience on Baltusrol’s driving range.

PGA TOUR Champions Learning Center

On Monday, July 25 at 11:30 p.m. ET, a special PGA TOUR Champions Learning Center will premiere a new episode dedicated to the PGA Championship. Former PGA Championship winner John Daly (1991) and major champion Lee Janzen will be featured, with Daly offering a demonstration on his technique for controlling trajectory, and Janzen sharing the keys to his U.S. Open victory at Baltusrol in 1993.

International PGA Championship Programming

Golf Channel also will produce live international PGA Championship news programming from its Orlando World Headquarters in both Japanese and Mandarin. The shows will feature live reports and custom content from Baltusrol throughout the week. These productions will complement the international distribution of Golf Central’s Live From the PGA Championship, which is distributed to markets within Golf Channel’s worldwide footprint in more than 80 countries, 200 million households and 11 languages.

Digital Coverage

GolfChannel.com will feature expanded coverage from its team of writers on-site at Baltusrol: Rex Hoggard, Ryan Lavner, Will Gray and Jason Crook. Content will be driven by a live blog which will serve as the one-stop destination for all PGA Championship storylines as the week develops. Coverage also will include up-to-the-minute scoring updates, features, analysis and reaction to the day’s play and photo galleries.

Additionally, once the Championship gets underway, Golf Channel host George Savaricas and analyst Tripp Isenhour will take part in daily in-studio “instant analysis” segments exclusive to Golf Channel Digital platforms.
