NOTABLE QUOTES: THE SENIOR OPEN – ROUND 2

Golf Channel Notable Quotes
The Senior Open – Round 2
Friday, July 22
Carnoustie Golf Links (Championship Course), Carnoustie, Scotland

** Live Round 3 coverage of The Senior Open resumes Saturday on Golf Channel from 9:30 a.m.-Noon ET, and will continue on NBC from Noon-2 p.m. ET.**

Olin Browne (6-under, T-2nd) speaking with Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis following his round
Olin Browne – “This place has a tendency to show its teeth at some point during the tournament so I’m very glad to be where I am today and to come back and shoot such a good score after opening up with an indifferent even [par round] yesterday. I’m very pleased.”

Jesper Parnevik (6-under, T-2nd) speaking with Lewis following his round
Jesper Parnevik – “I was putting so bad… For me the scariest thing when you have the yips is [thinking] long and smooth. So far I’ve been able to just keep it going. You know golf, I just hope it’s going to last a while.”

On fellow Swede Henrik Stenson winning The Open
Parnevik – “It was incredible for him not only to win but the way that he did win… It was big for Swedish golf. We’ve been waiting for this for a long time. The women spoiled us for many years, Annika [Sorenstam] in particular. In Sweden I think a lot of people know that the men [hadn’t won a major] but now everybody knows.”

On Parnevik
Lanny Wadkins – “When [putts] go in, the confidence is higher and the stroke smooths out. This is far and away the smoothest stroke we’ve seen from Jesper since joining the PGA TOUR Champions. He’s actually dare I say for Jesper, rolling the ball.”
John Mahaffey – “He’s so good from tee-to-green, [putting] is the one element that’s held him back. We’ve watched his putting stroke evolve and it looks like it’s gotten so much better.”

Tom Byrum (6-under, T-2nd) speaking with Lewis following his round
Tom Byrum – “I hit it really well, which was totally the opposite of yesterday… I’ve got a lot of confidence going for me.”

Mark O’Meara (5-under, T-7th) speaking with Lewis following his round
Mark O’Meara – “This golf course is one where you have to just be patient. It’s a very demanding golf course. There wasn’t much wind out there today, but it still plays tough… I love links golf and any difficult links golf course because it’s so challenging and you have to be very creative out there.”

On Bernhard Langer (1-under, T-22nd)
Wadkins – “There comes a point in time where you’re getting too far behind to catch these leaders, and Bernhard Langer is approaching that… You can’t make birdies laying that far back [off the tee]. You’ve got to start being a little more aggressive off the tee. Trust your driver, because that’s the club that’s really going to get it done for you. Using that, and using it well.”
Billy Ray Brown – “He’s going to have to change his game plan… He drives the ball well, so there’s no need for him to be coming to the tees with any less confidence than he normally has.”
