Sweden fell to France 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the 2012 London Olympics. Canada vs. Australia: The Canadian women’s national team looks to build on its 2012 Olympic bronze as they open the Rio tournament with a Group F soccer prelim against Australia at Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo. In the London semifinals, Canada fell to the eventual champion United States 4-3 in an extra-time thriller. U.S. vs. New Zealand: Carli Lloyd leads the U.S. women as they open play in a Group G soccer prelim against New Zealand at Mineirao stadium in Belo Horizonte. Four years ago in London, Lloyd tallied both goals in Team USA’s 2-1 victory over Japan, giving the U.S. its third straight Olympic gold. France vs. Colombia: France and Colombia meet for a Group G women’s soccer prelim at Mineirao stadium in Belo Horizonte. France was shutout by Canada 1-0 in the bronze medal match four years ago in London.

  • Soccer – Brazil vs. China: Brazil takes on China in a Group E women’s soccer prelim at Olympic Stadium. The last Olympic match for the 2016 host nation was a 2-0 loss to Japan in the quarterfinals of the 2012 London Games.   • Basketball – Australia vs. France: In a preliminary-round men’s basketball game, two San Antonio Spurs teammates meet as Patty Mills and Australia face Tony Parker-led France. U.S. vs. China: Kevin Durant and Paul George lead the United States men’s basketball team in a Group A prelim against China, anchored by former NBA player Yi Jianlian. The Americans are a perfect 16-0 over the past two Olympics, including a 31-point victory over China when the squads met at the 2008 Beijing Games.
