NOTABLE QUOTES - THE PLAYERS, FINAL ROUND (NBC)

Golf Channel on NBC Notable Quotes
THE PLAYERS Championship, Final Round
Sunday, May 15, 2016 (2-7 p.m. ET on NBC)
TPC Sawgrass (Stadium Course), Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

Jason Day (15-under, winner) speaking with Golf Channel on NBC’s Steve Sands following his victory
Jason Day – “I just wanted to win this so bad… I’m very motivated to stay at No. 1. This definitely gives me that extension on the gap between 1 and 2 and I’m very pleased with how everything has been progressing this year. But the year’s not over, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the year.”

Day – “I was really nervous on the front side and it showed. And then coming and playing the way I did on the back side, just really bearing down and knuckling down… I’m going to hold this memory for a long time.”

On Day
Peter Jacobsen – “You’ve got to build some scar tissue if you’re going to be a great player, a Hall-of-Fame player. It doesn’t always come easy… I’m pretty impressed with his resiliency. He’s seemed to take the punches that everyone has thrown at him, and he’s handled it.”
Johnny Miller – “When you can mitigate the bad days with good up-and-ins it makes a big difference like Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson would do.”
Roger Maltbie – “It says a lot about his focus and determination. He hung in there when it was more than a scratchy start. It turned into ‘wait a minute, what’s going on?’ And he fought off that [start].”
Miller – “He hit three greens in regulation on a perfect day [on the front nine], and he had to work hard for that… He was fortunate no one made a run at him early, no one really pushed him.”

On Kevin Chappell (11-under, 2nd)
Gary Koch – “What a turnaround for this man. Stood on the 9th hole on Friday very much in danger of missing the cut. Pretty impressive stuff around here… He’s been knocking on the door.”

On The Players Championship
Miller – “This championship is a bit of a gauntlet for everybody. It really is the ultimate pressure test.”
