NFL Coverage Earns 10 Nominations

NBC Sports Commentators Garner Four of Five Nominations For Outstanding Sports Personality – Play-By-Play

 

STAMFORD, Conn. – March 31, 2016 – NBC Sports Group earned 28 Sports Emmy Award nominations for 2015, highlighted by 10 nominations for its NFL coverage, five nominations for its coverage of horseracing’s Triple Crown, and three for its first season of NASCAR coverage.

The announcement was made today by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Winners will be announced by the Academy on Tuesday, May 10, at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City.

Highlights of NBC Sports Group’s nominations:

  • Sunday Night Football – primetime television’s No. 1 show – was nominated for Outstanding Live Sports Series for the eighth consecutive year, and has won the award in six of the last seven years;
  • NBC Sports Group’s coverage of American Pharoah’s historic Triple Crown run garnered five nominations, highlighted by the nomination of NBC’s 147th Belmont Stakes presentation in the Outstanding Live Sports Special category;
  • 26-time Emmy Award-winner Bob Costas (NBC) was nominated for Outstanding Sports Personality – Studio Host;
  • NBC and NBCSN commentators earned four of five nominations for Outstanding Sports Personality – Play-by-Play, including seven-time Emmy winner Al Michaels (NBC), three-time Emmy winner Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick (NBC/NBCSN), who has won the award the last two years, and the father-and-son commentating duo of Marv Albert and Kenny Albert;
  • Cris Collinsworth (NBC) who has won seven consecutive Emmys for Outstanding Sports Personality – Sports Event Analyst, was nominated again in the category;
  • Michele Tafoya (NBC), a two-time Emmy Award-winner for Outstanding Sports Personality – Sports Reporter (2011 & 2013), was nominated again in the category;
  • Sammy Sadovnik’s nomination in the Outstanding On-Air Talent in Spanish category headlines seven combined nominations for Telemundo and NBC UNIVERSO.

 

All of NBC Sports Group’s national television networks – NBC (19), NBCSN (8), and Golf Channel (1), as well as Spanish-language networks Telemundo (4), and NBC UNIVERSO (3) – received nominations.
