NOTABLE QUOTES: WGC-CADILLAC CHAMPIONSHIP ON NBC (FINAL ROUND)

NBC Sports Group Notable Quotes
WGC-Cadillac Championship (Final Round)
Sunday, March 6, 2016
Trump National Doral (Blue Monster), Doral, Fla.

Adam Scott (12-under, 1st) speaking with Golf Channel on NBC’s Steve Sands following his round
Scott – “I’ve used my experience to my advantage the last couple of weeks. And [I’ve] realized around these tough courses although you never want quads and doubles, you’re not out of it. It was such a challenge out there today. I knew if I could just get a couple [shots back] before the turn maybe I would have a chance. And everything fell the right way for me today, especially up 18 for that ball to stay up [out of the water].”

Bubba Watson (11-under, 2nd) speaking with Sands
Watson – “It’s hard to hit a lot of fairways [here] for anybody, not just me. But you can still play from [the rough]. Right now I’m just seeing the shots so well… I just know I can play out of the little bit of trees that they have here.”

On Scott narrowly missing hitting into the water on the 72nd hole
Johnny Miller – “What a break. It’s [like] Fred Couples [on the 12th hole] at the Masters.”

On Scott
David Feherty – “What an extraordinary performance. Almost everyone else is just shedding things, throwing them outside the basket of their balloon.”

Mark Rolfing – “It just shows you how resilient [he] is. To hit a couple of the shots that he did and make two [double bogeys], it really didn’t faze him.”

On Watson
Miller – “If they played every PGA TOUR event here at the Blue Monster he would be leading money winner probably every year.”

Gary Koch – “With his [putting] stroke, he tends to ease into the ball sometimes with some deceleration. But with the downhill putts, he gets it [to the hole].”

On Rory McIlroy (10-under T-3rd)
Miller – “You’d think with the quality at the top of the leaderboard that we wouldn’t be seeing all these mistakes that are being made. Last year Dustin Johnson won this championship at 9-under and I thought Rory was going to blow that away, shooting 13 or 14-under par.”

On Phil Mickelson (5th)
Miller – “Everything looks good except for he doesn’t seem to play the same way when he has a chance to win… We’re so used to seeing him have to be amazing at scrambling from missing fairways, and it’s like a different guy we’re watching.”

Peter Jacobsen – “His passion is so high and he loves what he’s doing with his golf swing. He’s ready to win again.”

Rolfing – “I think something that really has been good for him is this whole Ryder Cup involvement. I think it’s brought his youthful spirit back a bit and it’s taken some focus off him winning the U.S. Open.”
