NOTABLE QUOTES: WGC-CADILLAC CHAMPIONSHIP ON NBC (THIRD ROUND)

NBC Sports Group Notable Quotes
WGC-Cadillac Championship (Third Round)
Saturday, March 5, 2016
Trump National Doral (Blue Monster), Doral, Fla.

**Final Round coverage of the WGC-Cadillac Championship begins tomorrow at Noon ET on Golf Channel, and continues at 2 p.m. ET on NBC**

Rory McIlroy (leader, 12-under) speaking with Golf Channel on NBC’s Steve Sands following his round
McIlroy – “The wind was coming from a different direction today so it made the course play a little bit different, a little bit tougher. I just played a really solid round of golf. I didn’t make any mistakes – no bogeys – which is what I’ve been looking to do. I feel like I’ve been making too many mistakes. So to eliminate the mistakes out there today and hole a lot of good putts and give myself a lot of looks… I felt really good about it and obviously just need to do more of the same tomorrow.”

On McIlroy’s putting
Johnny Miller – “The cross-handed style has worked. 10 out of 11 putting from five-to-10 feet, that’s a lot better than he’s been doing with the normal grip.

On McIlroy and Adam Scott (T-2nd, 9-under)
Roger Maltbie – “It’s amazing the contrasting styles that [McIlroy and Scott are] using to play this golf course. Rory is using his driver as a real weapon, and Adam Scott is much more conservative.”

On Scott’s putting
Maltbie – “I just don’t believe he’s the best reader of the greens. I still think that’s an issue for him.”

Peter Jacobsen – “I know we talked a lot about the anchoring ban and what he was going to do. I think his stroke is beautiful.”

On Dustin Johnson’s driving
Mark Rolfing – “They just keep tweaking some of these holes and moving bunkers. It doesn’t matter to Dustin [Johnson]. Unless they put a [fairway] bunker that goes all the way to the green, he’s just going to go over top of it.”

On changes to Phil Mickelson’s driving this season
Gary Koch – “I think the ball flight is very different, you know shallower into the ball and a more piercing ball flight. I think he’s certainly driving the ball though with more confidence than we’ve seen in a long, long time.”

On Bubba Watson
David Feherty – “He doesn’t look comfortable with the putter, but he’s hit a couple that he hasn’t looked happy with that went in anyway.”

On Trump National Doral
Notah Begay – “It’s the type of golf course that regardless of the wind condition you’re going to have about a third of the holes that are playing really hard, a third that are accessible, and a third that are playing on the easier side.”

Miller – “The long ball hitters since Jack Nicklaus’ days and Tiger’s days have just dominated on this golf course. If you’re a big hitter, for some reason it’s just always set up well for them.”
