Nine Players from 2016 NHL All-Star Rosters to Appear on NBCSN This Week, Including Giroux, Bergeron, Kane, Stamkos, Subban and Larkin

STAMFORD, Conn. – Jan. 11, 2016 – This week’s NHL coverage on NBCSN will feature nine players named to the 2016 NHL All-Star team, including Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron and Flyers forward Claude Giroux, when Philadelphia hosts Boston on NBCSN’s Wednesday Night Rivalry at 8 p.m. ET. Giroux and the Flyers will also be featured on NBCSN’s Sunday Night Hockey at 7:30 p.m. ET, when they visit the Detroit Red Wings and 19-year-old phenom and NHL All-Star Dylan Larkin. NHL Sunday Shootout will recap the week that was in the NHL at 11 p.m. ET, following Flyers-Red Wings.

NBCSN’s six consecutive days of primetime hockey coverage begins tomorrow at 9 p.m. ET, when Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche host Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning. This week’s NHL action on NBCSN also includes an Original Six matchup between Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks and P.K. Subban and the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET.

NBCSN will also present college hockey action weekend featuring a two-game Hockey East series between the Merrimack Warriors and the No. 13 Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The first game will air on NBCSN on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET, followed by the second game of the series on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.

NBC Sports Live Extra – NBC Sports Group’s live streaming product for desktops, mobile devices, tablets and connected TVs – will stream this week’s NHL and college hockey coverage.

Three-time Emmy Award-winning play-by-play commentator Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member and analyst Eddie Olczyk, and Emmy Award-winning ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Pierre McGuire will have the call of Bruins-Flyers from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pa.

Gord Miller (play-by-play) and Brian Engblom (‘Inside-the-Glass’) will call Lightning-Avalanche, Pat Foley (play-by-play) and Olczyk will call Blackhawks-Canadiens, and Miller and McGuire will have the call of NBCSN’s Sunday Night Hockey showdown between the Flyers and Red Wings. Steve Schlanger (play-by-play) and Anson Carter (analyst) will call both games between Merrimack and Notre Dame.

Liam McHugh and Kathryn Tappen will combine to anchor this week’s studio coverage, alongside analysts and former players Mike Milbury, Keith Jones, Jeremy Roenick, Brian Boucher and Anson Carter. NHL insider Bob McKenzie will join NBCSN’s Wednesday Night Rivalry coverage to provide the latest in-depth news from around the league.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT RIVALRY – BRUINS-FLYERS – 8 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Bruins (21-14-5, 47 pts; 4th in Atlantic Division) carry a 12-3-3 road record into Philadelphia for their matchup against the Flyers on Wednesday Night Rivalry. Boston has lost just once in regulation on the road in the last two months (7-1-3). Bruins All-Star Patrice Bergeron either leads or is tied for the team lead in goals (15), assists (23), and points (38).

The Flyers (18-15-7, 43 pts; 6th in Metropolitan Division) have won three straight games and enter the week just six points behind the Rangers and Islanders for second place in the division. Philadelphia has scored four goals in three straight games, including its 4-0 victory against the Islanders on Saturday. Prior to that, the Flyers had scored at least four goals in only six of its 37 previous games. Earlier in the season, the Flyers snapped a six-game losing streak to the Bruins, as Claude Giroux scored twice, including the game-winning goal, in Philadelphia’s 5-4 win in Boston.


SUNDAY NIGHT HOCKEY – FLYERS-RED WINGS – 7:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Red Wings (22-13-7, 51 pts; 2nd in Atlantic Division) enter the week on a four-game winning streak, notching four straight road victories to start a six-game road trip. Goaltender Petr Mrazek earned NHL Second Star of the Week honors after posting a 3-0-0 record, including a 22-save shutout against the Devils. Rookie phenom Dylan Larkin, who was named to the NHL All-Star team last week, leads the club with 14 goals, and ranks second on the team with 29 points, just one behind Henrik Zetterberg (30). Sunday night’s meeting marks the first of three matchups between the Flyers and Red Wings this season.
LIGHTNING-AVALANCHE – TOMORROW AT 9 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Lightning (21-17-4, 46 pts; 5th in Atlantic Division) end a four-game road trip in Colorado tomorrow night in search of their third straight win. Tampa Bay won its second straight game by a score of 3-2 on Saturday night, as Nikita Kucherov scored on a breakaway with 1:09 left in overtime. Kucherov (16) and Stamkos (18) are the only players on the Lightning with more than eight goals. Ben Bishop is currently tied for sixth in the NHL in goals against average (2.06), and will join Stamkos as representatives of the Lightning at the All-Star Game.

The Avalanche (21-19-3, 45 pts; 6th in Central Division) had its three-game winning streak snapped in Chicago last night, but have found their offense of late, averaging four goals per game in their last four contests. Matt Duchene leads the team with 21 goals, and will represent Colorado at the All-Star Game in Nashville.

 

BLACKHAWKS-CANADIENS – THURSDAY AT 7:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Blackhawks (27-13-4, 58 pts; 2nd in Central Division) enter the week as the hottest team in the Western Conference, riding a seven-game winning streak that has brought them within four points of the conference-leading Dallas Stars. Chicago’s offense has been firing on all cylinders, recording at least three goals in all seven victories. Patrick Kane continues to lead the NHL with 62 points, nine points clear of Dallas’ Jamie Benn (53), who sits second. Kane has recorded 12 points during this seven game streak (4g/8a), including a pair of goals in last night’s 6-3 win over Colorado.

The Canadiens (23-17-3, 49 pts; 3rd in Atlantic Division) lost their most recent matchup by a score of 3-1 to the Penguins, despite a goal from P.K. Subban, who was named to the All-Star Team last week. Subban currently leads the team with 27 assists, which ranks third in the NHL behind Ottawa’s Erik Karlsson (36) and Dallas’ John Klingberg (32).

 

MERRIMACK–NO. 13 NOTRE DAME – FRIDAY AT 7:30 P.M. ET AND SATURDAY AT 7 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

NBCSN’s coverage of the 2015-16 college hockey campaign continues this season with a pair of Hockey East matchups between the Merrimack Warriors (7-9-5) and the No. 13 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (10-4-7). Notre Dame is unbeaten dating back to Nov. 28 (5-0-3), and is third in the Hockey East standings with a 6-1-2 conference record. Merrimack is looking to bounce back following five straight losses, including a pair of losses at No. 9 Cornell last weekend.
