On Match #1 between Watson/Holmes vs. Scott/Matsuyama
John Cook – “You’ve got four guys who can bomb it. But I’m a little curious about Adam [Scott]. He’s bringing out the short putter and going left hand low. But if I’m Bubba and J.B. Holmes I’m making him putt everything out. Test Adam straight away and see how comfortable he is over these two and three-footers. I think it’s going to be a very intriguing match.”
Chris DiMarco – “If [Scott] puts a beautiful stroke on it then that could be a huge confidence builder. If he doesn’t, then it could work the other way. It’s weird when we’re so used to seeing him with that long putter and how great he’s putted with it but it’s going to be tough seeing the short putter.”

On the Spieth/D. Johnson pairing
Cook – “Jordan is going to be able to hit some shots and wedges from where Dustin is driving it… There was a little bit of a rivalry there mid-summer with the U.S. Open coming down the stretch, but I think Jordan is going to be loving from where he’s going to get to play from. He doesn’t get to play from those places very often, so his short game will shine in this match.”
DiMarco – “It’s going to be a lot of short putts for Dustin Johnson. That’s going to be the key. Can Dustin Johnson capitalize on those short putts he’s going to have? Because Jordan Spieth is going to put them inside 15 feet a lot.”

On International captain Nick Price putting pressure on his players in needing to win this week
Peter Jacobsen – “What you’re hearing from captain Price is a way to motivate the players. When he says that the Internationals need to win so they can continue to compete in this [event], I think it’s a bunch of bologna. This is an opportunity for a player to represent their country in an International competition… This is a jewel in your cap… If the U.S. wins, in two years the International squad will show up and try and win again… If you don’t like it, if you’re not winning enough – play better.”

On the Mickelson/Z. Johnson pairing
Jacobsen – “I love the synergy between Mickelson and Zach Johnson. These fairways are wide enough that Mickelson can bomb it. I don’t see Phil missing a lot of fairways here. And having a strategist like Zach Johnson, especially in foursomes is going to be really good for Phil. [Phil] is so jacked up for this competition, because quite honestly he’s kind of a pseudo type captain on and off the golf course. I like Phil Mickelson and Zach Johnson together.”

On Danny Lee
Jacobsen – “He has worked very hard coming from when he won the U.S. Amateur at Pinehurst a few years ago. He struggled on Tour, lost his card, got his card [back]. Now he’s a Tour winner, and he deserves to be here.”

On Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea
Cook – “It certainly favors the bombers because of the par-5s.”
