“TOGETHER WE MAKE FOOTBALL” FEATURES DETROIT LIONS GUARD MANNY RAMIREZ TOMORROW MORNING ON TODAY

Detroit Lions Host Denver Broncos on Sunday Night Football

STAMFORD, Conn. – September 24, 2015 – In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, tomorrow’s “Together We Make Football” segment on TODAY highlights Detroit Lions guard and Houston, Texas, native Manny Ramirez.

Growing up in Houston, Ramirez was the only Hispanic player on his high school football team. He went on to earn a football scholarship to Texas Tech, and was selected by the Detroit Lions with the 18th pick in the 4th round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Now back in Detroit for the second time in his NFL career, others in the Hispanic community can look up to Ramirez, who takes a lot of pride in being a good role model. He spends time with his family in “Mexicantown,” a community in southwest Detroit, encouraging young Latinos to think big when it comes to their future, and connecting his own children with their heritage.

The NFL and its teams are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of special events including designated home games in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month and local community outreach. During Hispanic Heritage Month, the NFL and all 32 teams will amplify the rich history, heritage and tradition of Latinos, and honor the positive impact they have had on the game and country.

Sunday Night Football, television’s No. 1 primetime show, continues this Sunday, Sept. 27, when Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions host Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos from Ford Field in Detroit, Mich. Coverage begins at 7 p.m. ET with Football Night in America, the most-watched studio show in sports. In addition, as a part of their “La NFL en NBC UNIVERSO” package, NBC UNIVERSO will present the primetime Broncos-Lions Hispanic Heritage Month game in Spanish.

ABOUT “TOGETHER WE MAKE FOOTBALL”

The National Football League and NBC present weekly segments on TODAY for “Together We Make Football,” an invitation to anyone inspired by the game of football – whether as a player at any level, coach or a fan – to share their story for a chance to win a trip to Super Bowl 50.

The campaign will unfold weekly throughout the NFL season with segments airing every Friday on TODAY.

Fans can visit TODAY.COM/TWMF now and share a video or photo, with a description detailing how football inspires them. Stories submitted through Monday, November 2, will be entered into the contest that will produce a winner of a trip to Super Bowl 50 in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Following the deadline for submissions, a joint NFL and NBC panel will select five finalists whose stories will be turned into short features by NFL Films. The features will be unveiled weekly on TODAY beginning Friday, December 4 and the winning story will be announced live on TODAY on January 8, 2016.

This is the latest iteration of the “Together We Make Football” campaign that launched in 2013. Over the past two years, thousands of fans shared their stories of what football means to them. A select few had their stories told on TODAY and some even won trips to Super Bowl.

Stories that air on TODAY also will be posted on NFL.com/videos/twmf throughout the season.
