Golf Channel Notable Quotes

The Evian Championship, Third Round
Saturday, Sept. 12
Evian Resort Golf Club
Evian-les-Bains, France

Sunday’s final round of The Evian Championship will air on Golf Channel from 8:30-12:30 p.m. ET, and continuing on NBC from 12:30-2 p.m. ET.

On the leaderboard heading into the final round at the Evian Championship
Terry Gannon – “This could be a lot of fun tomorrow.”
Richard Kaufman – “We’ve got some great potential stories for this final round.”

On Mi Hyang Lee, leader at 10-under par (1-under par 70 on Saturday)
Terry Gannon – “She is on the verge of something special.”
Judy Rankin – “Mi Hyang Lee has the old c-swing finish, and that is an old school, pretty, high finish.”

On Lexi Thompson, one shot back at 9-under par (5-under-66 on Saturday)
Rankin – “There should be some edges on fire because there have been some edges she has burned today.”

On Morgan Pressel, T3 at 8-under par after making a double bogey on 18 by hitting her second shot in the water (even-par under par 71 on Saturday)
Rankin – “As you talk about the list of players, the one that you would have to say, by the way she has played all summer and coming in to this, she is most due for a win.”
Jerry Foltz – “Combine that with how many times she has been knocking on the door all year long.  Be it losing in a playoff or the other letdowns and short putts missed on the final nine when she had a chance to win. She’s been knocking on the door all year. Sometimes you feel like maybe the golf gods are against you.”
Rankin – “I think the one who should have seen trouble lurking is [Pressel’s caddie] Rock. They communicate so well and they have been together so long. She wasn’t even talking about putting the ball on the green. For that reason you wonder why what is the point, and the rough is wet. Not such a tough shot on a good day.”
Rankin – “I believe Jerry (Foltz) analyzed the lie better than she did.”
Foltz – “The mistake on the shot was she let it bleed off to the right and didn’t keep it on the line she wanted. But it was not an easy shot even if it was sitting in a much better lie to hit it directly where you were aiming.”
Gannon – “She might not be able to win it here, but she could lose it here. I don’t understand that play.”
Rankin – “You hate to say before a shot that they are doing the wrong thing because so many times they pull it off. I think the big mistake here was the wet rough. You have no margin for error when rough is wet. I am sure in other conditions it was a shot she could easily play.”
Foltz – “I was standing pretty close the whole time they never once considered laying up.”
Rankin – “Regardless of the hiccup on 18, Morgan Pressel is playing very well.”
Gannon – “That was a nightmare finish.”

On Lydia Lo, T3 at 8-under par (4-under par 67 on Saturday)
Gannon – “So the last piece of the puzzle still out there for the teenager – a major championship.”
Rankin – “I know she misses one every now and then but she is a really, really good four-foot putter.”

On Nicole Broch Larson, T5 at 7-under par (even-par 71 on Saturday)
Rankin – “Her scorecard is kind of the tale of two different days in one day with five bogeys and five birdies.”

On Ilhee Lee, T8 at 6-under par (2-under 69 on Saturday) and her multiple lip outs on the back nine
Gannon – “She has got to feel like she has made somebody mad somewhere.”

On Michelle Wie, T16 at 2-under par (1-under-par 70 on Saturday)
Gannon – “Lot of positive signs for Michelle Wie this week.”
Rankin – “She is happy about it. We are happy about it. All of the fans like to see Michelle in the mix.”
