NOTES AND QUOTES FROM NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES RACE COVERAGE FROM WATKINS GLEN INTERNATIONAL ON NBCSN

Race winner Joey Logano to Marty Snider: “First time I have ever swept a weekend. I would never have thought it would happen at a road course. This is the coolest weekend of my life.”

Runner-up Kyle Busch to Mike Massaro: “I felt like I was better than he (Joey Logano) was, but my crew chief called in scared.”

Kevin Harvick to Dave Burns on running out of fuel before reaching the finish line: “We have had really fast cars but the circumstances have just gotten the best of us. Hopefully we are saving it up for the last ten weeks.”

The following are highlights from today’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race coverage on NBCSN.

Burton on hot brakes at “The Glen”: “The straights are so long, and all the straights lead into high friction, high breaking areas that create a lot of heat. That makes it very difficult for the brake system to withstand.”

Kasey Kahne to Snider after his second straight DNF: “I made it longer this week than last. I was pretty awful last week. At this rate we are going to need to win, and that is going to be the only way we are going into the Chase.”

Burton on Kahne’s struggle to stay in Chase contention: “He knows he is going to have to find a way to win a race. He was also very dejected last week after the wreck and he sounded very dejected today.”

Burton on Kyle Busch’s strategy in the last 25 laps: “I think right now they should be pushing hard. I think this is an opportunity. They have caught the lead pack. They have the best situation on fuel and the best tires.”

Letarte on Logano’s crew chief communication going into the final laps: “I think Todd Gordon is not saying anything because he wants Joey Logano to go try and win the race. They must feel good about their fuel strategy so there is no reason to tell him what is going on in front of him.”

Letarte on fuel strategy going into the final laps: “A few miles at Watkins Glen, with all the shifts and all these corners, you aren’t going to get the same fuel millage that you get at Pocono. These guys are really trying to stretch their tanks.”

Letarte on fuel strategies that require a late caution flag: “All these crew chiefs understand the opportunity and the risk involved, and unfortunately you can study all the stats you want but if you don’t get a caution. It is going to be hard to stretch that fuel.”

Burton on fuel millage races: ‘What in the world is not to like about this? There are so many strategies, and to me that is what racing is all about.”

Logano’s crew chief Todd Gordon to Stavast after the race: “We got ourselves in the right position. We had a fast race car and just didn’t get to show it, but we led the lap that mattered.”

Letarte on Logano’s last lap pass and victory: “Joey Logano drove a great race to push those guys to run out of gas.”

Burton on Harvick’s lack of fuel going into the final two turns: “He pitted on lap 51, he managed that fuel knowing how many laps he had to save. He missed it by a single straightaway.”

Race winner Logano to Snider: “This makes up for last week. We lost the race this way (on fuel), and now we won one this way… First time I have ever swept a weekend. I would never have thought it would happen at a road course. This is the coolest weekend of my life.”

Harvick to Burns on his fuel shortage: “This how the middle of the season has gone. We have had really fast cars but the circumstances have just gotten the best of us. Hopefully we are saving it up for the last ten weeks.”

Runner-up Kyle Busch to Massaro: “I could have raced the No. 22 and I could have passed him. I felt like I was better than he was, but my crew chief called in scared.”

NBCSN’s NASCAR coverage continues this evening with NASCAR Victory Lap at 11 p.m. ET, and tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. ET with NASCAR America.
