New Season, New Teams: Watford

First match: Everton v. Watford, Sat., August 8, 10 a.m. ET

Watford earned automatic promotion to the 2015-16 Premier League by finishing second in the Football League Championship last season. This will be the club’s first Premier League season since 2006-07, and supporters are hoping that they can improve on their previous two Premier League campaigns, when they were immediately relegated following last-place finishes. Watford are inexperienced when it comes to the top tier of English football, having competed in just eight previous top-flight seasons. With new manager Quique Sanchez Flores at the helm, Watford face an uphill fight for Premier League survival, and bookmakers have made the Hornets the odds-on favorites for relegation.

The club is located northwest of London, in the county of Hertfordshire, and boasts one of the most famous celebrity fans in all of English football, Sir Elton John. He was born five miles from the team’s stadium, Vicarage Road, and is a lifelong fan, former owner, and current Honorary Life-President of the club.
