NBC Sports Group To Provide Extensive Coverage of IIHF World Hockey Championship For Fifth Consecutive Year

STAMFORD, Conn. – April 27, 2015 – NBCSN presents the first Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET, as Alex Ovechkin and the (2) Washington Capitals host John Tavares and the (3) New York Islanders in a do-or-die elimination game on Day 13 of NBC Sports Group’s comprehensive NHL playoff coverage.

Emmy Award-winning play-by-play commentator and Sports Illustrated 2014 Media Person of the Year Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member and analyst Eddie Olczyk, and Inside-the-Glass analyst Pierre McGuire will have the call from the Verizon Center in downtown Washington, D.C.

Emrick handled the play-by-play commentary of the last Game 7 between the Islanders and Capitals 28 years ago, on April 18-19, 1987. Islanders forward Pat LaFontaine scored in the fourth overtime to give New York the win early on Easter Sunday morning, which became known as the “Easter Epic,” and still stands as the longest Game 7 in NHL history.

Tonight’s playoff coverage on CNBC begins at 7 p.m. ET, when Pavel Datsyuk and the (3) Detroit Red Wings look to advance in the bracket with a Game 6 win over Steven Stamkos and the (2) Tampa Bay Lightning.

Pre-game coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. ET with NHL Live on NBCSN, hosted by Liam McHugh with analysts and former players Mike Milbury and Jeremy Roenick. Host Kathryn Tappen will anchor CNBC’s studio coverage alongside analyst and former player Anson Carter, and guest analyst and former NHL goaltender Brian Boucher. Boucher split 13 NHL seasons with seven teams, playing the majority of his career with the Philadelphia Flyers, including 42 playoff games with the team.

GAME 7 – (3) ISLANDERS-(2) CAPITALS – TONIGHT AT 7:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN – SERIES TIED 3-3

The Islanders and Capitals face off in a decisive Game 7 tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN. The Islanders fought off elimination with a Game 6 win at Nassau Coliseum on Saturday afternoon, as captain John Tavares recorded a goal and an assist, and goaltender Jaroslav Halak stopped 38 of 39 shots in the win.

This marks the first Game 7 of the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs; last year, the road team won six of seven Game 7 matchups. Eight of the Capitals’ 10 playoff series since 2008 have required a Game 7, while the Islanders are playing their first Game 7 since the 2002 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. The winning team will advance in the bracket to face the (1) New York Rangers in the second round.

GAME 6 – (2) LIGHTNING-(3) RED WINGS – TONIGHT AT 7 P.M. ET ON CNBC – RED WINGS LEAD 3-2

The Red Wings look to close out their first-round series with a win at home over the Lightning tonight at 7 p.m. ET, and set up a second-round Original Six showdown with the (1) Montreal Canadiens. The teams have alternated wins through the first five games of the series. Detroit goaltender Petr Mrazek stopped all 28 shots he faced in Game 5 for his second shutout of the series in the Red Wings’ 4-0 victory in Tampa Bay on Saturday. The Lightning will look to draw upon their strong finish to Game 4 in Detroit, where they scored twice in the final six minutes of regulation and won 3-2 in overtime to stun the Red Wings.

John Forslund (play-by-play) and Andy Brickley (Inside-the-Glass analyst) will have the call from Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich.
