STAMFORD, Conn. – Jan. 12, 2015 – Some of the NHL’s biggest stars will be showcased on NBC and NBCSN this week, when Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins host Henrik Lundqvist and the New York Rangers on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. ET on the 2014-15 debut of NBC’s NHL Game of the Week. On Wednesday night, Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals face Claude Giroux and the Philadelphia Flyers on NBCSN’s Wednesday Night Rivalry at 8 p.m. ET.

This week’s NHL coverage begins tomorrow night at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN, when Zach Parise and the Minnesota Wild travel to Pittsburgh to face Crosby and the Penguins. Coverage concludes on Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET on NBCSN, when Pavel Datsyuk and the Detroit Red Wings host 2015 NHL All-Star top vote-getter Zemgus Girgensons and the Buffalo Sabres.

NHL Live, NBCSN’s pre- and post-game NHL studio show, begins at 6:30 p.m. ET tomorrow, and at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday and Sunday. Kathryn Tappen and Liam McHugh will combine to anchor this week’s coverage alongside former players and analysts Mike Milbury, Keith Jones and Jeremy Roenick. NHL insider Bob McKenzie will join NBCSN’s Wednesday Night Rivalry coverage to provide the latest in-depth news from around the league.

NBCSN continues its 2014-15 college hockey coverage with two Hockey East showdowns this weekend, beginning Friday night at 7:30 p.m. ET when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish host the UConn Huskies, followed by a matchup between the UMass Amherst Minutemen and New Hampshire Wildcats Saturday at 6:30 p.m. ET.

 

NHL GAME OF THE WEEK – RANGERS-PENGUINS – SUNDAY AT 12:30 P.M. ET ON NBC

NBC’s NHL Game of the Week features two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference this Sunday. New York (24-11-4, 52 pts) enters the week as the hottest team in the NHL, with five straight wins and a 13-1-0 record in its last 14 games, led by Lundqvist’s 11-1-0 record in that span. The Penguins (25-10-6, 56 pts) currently sit one point behind the Metropolitan Division-leading New York Islanders, and enter the week looking to build off of Sidney Crosby’s overtime game-winner in a 2-1 victory over Montreal on Saturday. Sunday’s matchup on NBC is the fourth meeting between the teams, and the home team has won all three games, including the Rangers’ 4-3 OT win in New York on Dec. 8.

Emmy Award-winning play-by-play commentator and Sports Illustrated 2014 Media Person of the Year Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, analyst Eddie Olczyk and Emmy Award-winning ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Pierre McGuire will have the call from CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.

 

WEDNESDAY NIGHT RIVALRY – FLYERS-CAPITALS – WEDNESDAY AT 8 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Capitals (22-11-8, 52 pts) enter the week tied with the Rangers for third place in the Metropolitan Division, boasting points in 16 of their last 17 games (12-1-4), including a 3-2 win over Chicago in the 2015 NHL Winter Classic. Washington and Philadelphia will meet on Wednesday for the second time in less than a week. Last Thursday, NHL leading point-getter Jakub Voracek scored in overtime to give the Flyers a 3-2 win over the Capitals.

Emrick, Olczyk, and McGuire will have the call from Verizon Center in downtown Washington, D.C.

 

WILD-PENGUINS – TUESDAY AT 7 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Wild and Penguins meet for the second time this season tomorrow night. In their first encounter of the 2014-15 season, Pittsburgh earned a 4-1 win over the Wild in Minnesota on Nov. 4. The Wild look to rebound following a 4-1 loss to Chicago last night on NBCSN.

Dave Strader (play-by-play) and Brian Engblom (Inside-The-Glass analyst) will call the action from CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.

 

SABRES-RED WINGS – SUNDAY AT 8 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

Zemgus Girgensons and the Buffalo Sabres travel to Detroit to face Pavel Datsyuk and the Red Wings on Sunday night. Girgensons was the top vote-getter in the 2015 NHL All-Star voting, and leads the Sabres with 11 goals. In their last meeting on Dec. 23, Detroit scored four times in the third period in a 6-3 come-from-behind win over Buffalo.

NBCSN PRESENTS COMPREHENSIVE 2015 NHL ALL-STAR WEEKEND COVERAGE – JAN. 23-25

NBCSN will present comprehensive coverage of the 2015 NHL All-Star Weekend from Columbus, Ohio, beginning on Friday, Jan. 23 and continuing through Sunday, Jan. 25. Coverage begins with the NHL Fantasy Draft on Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. ET, followed by the NHL Skills Competition on Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. ET. All-Star Weekend coverage culminates with the NHL All-Star Game on Jan. 25 at 5 p.m. ET.

Teams on NBC/NBCSN this week feature a combined nine players selected to the 2015 All-Star Team: Alex Ovechkin (Washington), Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin (Pittsburgh), Jakub Voracek and Claude Giroux (Philadelphia), Rick Nash (N.Y. Rangers), Ryan Suter (Minnesota), Jimmy Howard (Detroit), and Zemgus Girgensons (Buffalo).

 

COLLEGE HOCKEY – UCONN-NOTRE DAME – FRIDAY AT 7:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish host the UConn Huskies in a Hockey East matchup on Friday night on NBCSN. The Fighting Irish enter the week looking to rebound from a 4-3 loss to Western Michigan on Saturday night, while the Huskies aim to build off a 2-0 shutout win over then-No. 5 ranked UMass Lowell.

Steve Schlanger (play-by-play) and Anson Carter (analyst) will have the call from the Compton Family Ice Arena in Notre Dame, Ind.

 

COLLEGE HOCKEY – UMASS AMHERST-NEW HAMPSHIRE – SATURDAY AT 6:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

UMass Amherst travels to Durham to face New Hampshire in NBCSN’s second Hockey East game this weekend. Last Friday, the Wildcats tied Dartmouth 2-2 on NBCSN. UMass Amherst and New Hampshire will also square off on Friday night in Massachusetts before closing out their home-and-home on NBCSN on Saturday night.

Dan Parkhurst (play-by-play) and Ken Hodge (analyst) will call the game from the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H.

NHL LIVE AT THE SUPER BOWL

NHL Live, NBC Sports Group’s pre- and post-game studio show, will originate from downtown Phoenix during Super Bowl week. Hosts Liam McHugh and Kathryn Tappen will anchor NBCSN’s NHL Live coverage throughout the week, alongside former players and analysts Mike Milbury, Keith Jones and Jeremy Roenick.

Beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 27, the program will be located at “Super Bowl Central,” NBC Sports Group’s primary home for studio programing during Super Bowl week, located in downtown Phoenix. NBCSN will feature six NHL telecasts during the week prior to Super Bowl XLIX, including the Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Washington Capitals on Wednesday Night Rivalry on Jan. 28. The week will also feature rematches of the 2014 Stanley Cup Conference Finals, when the Los Angeles Kings host the Chicago Blackhawks on Jan. 28 at 10:30 p.m. ET, and the New York Rangers host the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. ET. On Super Bowl Sunday, the St. Louis Blues and Washington Capitals meet at 1 p.m. ET on NBCSN.
