STAMFORD, Conn. – Dec. 29, 2014 – NBC presents one of the most iconic events in sport on New Year’s Day in our nation’s capital when Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals host Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2015 NHL Winter Classic from Nationals Park, home of Major League Baseball’s Washington Nationals, on Jan. 1, 2015, at 1 p.m. ET.

Emmy Award-winning play-by-play commentator and Sports Illustrated 2014 Media Person of the Year Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, analyst Eddie Olczyk and Emmy Award-winning ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Pierre McGuire will have the Winter Classic call from Washington, D.C.  On Dec. 18, Emrick, McGuire and executive producer Sam Flood previewed the 2015 Winter Classic on a media conference call. NHL Live host Liam McHugh will be on-site at Nationals Park alongside former players and analysts Mike MilburyKeith Jones and Jeremy Roenick to provide pre-game and post-game analysis, as well as commentary during intermissions. Weather Channel on-camera meteorologist and storm tracker Jim Cantore will be on-site in Washington D.C., providing updates from the stadium, as well as live reports from various national historical sites and monuments.

In addition, NBC’s intermission coverage will include a feature on Blackhawks forwards Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, and a look back at some of the best moments in Winter Classic history.

NBC Sports Group begins its Winter Classic coverage this Wednesday, New Year’s Eve, at 8 p.m. ET with a marathon of EPIX Presents Road to the NHL Winter Classic on NBCSN, leading into NBC’s game coverage on New Year’s Day.

This week’s NHL coverage begins tonight at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN, when Jimmy Howard and the Detroit Red Wings visit Tuukka Rask and the Boston Bruins. Coverage continues on NBCSN on Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET, when the Blackhawks play host to NHL-leading goal-scorer Tyler Seguin and the Dallas Stars.

NHL pre-game coverage on NBCSN begins with NHL Live tonight at 6:30 p.m. ET, and 7 p.m. ET on Sunday night. McHugh will anchor tonight’s coverage alongside Roenick and Anson Carter, and will host on Sunday night with Milbury and Jones.

NBCSN’s coverage of the 2014-15 college hockey season continues Saturday at 7 p.m. ET, when the No. 1 Boston University Terriers host the 2014 NCAA national champion Union College Dutchmen.

EPIX, NBCSN PRESENT NEW YEAR’S EVE BLOCK FOR “EPIX PRESENTS ROAD TO THE NHL WINTER CLASSIC™” BEGINNING WEDNESDAY AT 8 P.M. ET

Premium entertainment network EPIX and NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) today announced that the first three episodes of EPIX Presents Road to the NHL Winter Classic™ series will now also be available in a special three-hour block on New Year’s Eve on NBCSN, the first time the exclusive series will be carried on the network, which is the home of hockey in the U.S.

Produced by 52-time Emmy® Award winner Ross Greenburg, the series provides viewers an intimate look at the Chicago Blackhawks and Washington Capitals–in their professional and personal settings, capturing all the action, drama, heartaches, and triumphs as they unfold. The programming block will serve as a lead up to the 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic on New Year’s Day between the Blackhawks and Capitals.

RED WINGS-BRUINS – TONIGHT AT 7 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Red Wings and Bruins meet for the first time since the first week of the 2014-15 regular season, when the two teams split a pair of games in Detroit. The Red Wings have recorded a point in nine of their last 11 games (5-2-4), including a 3-2 overtime victory in Ottawa on Saturday night, led by a 31-save performance by Howard. The Bruins return to Boston where they are 9-2-2 in their last 13 games, and look to rebound from a 6-2 loss in Columbus on Saturday night.

Dave Strader (play-by-play) and Brian Engblom (Inside-The-Glass analyst) will have the call from TD Garden in Boston, Mass.

STARS-BLACKHAWKS – SUNDAY AT 8 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Blackhawks will return home after their Winter Classic appearance to host NHL-leading goal-scorer Tyler Seguin and the Dallas Stars Sunday night on NBCSN at 8 p.m. ET. Seguin leads the NHL with 25 goals, and ranks second in total points with 43, behind Philadelphia’s Jakub Voracek. Chicago has won both meetings with Dallas this season, including a 3-2 shootout win on opening night. The Stars have won five of their last six games, highlighted by a 4-3 win in St. Louis on Saturday night.

Strader (play-by-play) and Engblom (Inside-The-Glass analyst) will call the action from United Center in Chicago, Ill.

COLLEGE HOCKEY – NO. 1 BOSTON UNIVERSITY VS. UNION COLLEGE – SATURDAY AT 7 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

NBCSN continues its college hockey coverage on Saturday night at 7 p.m. ET, when the No. 1 Boston University Terriers host the defending national champion Union College Dutchmen. Boston University boasts an 11-3-2 overall record, including a 5-1 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in their most recent game on Dec. 13. Union (10-7-1) has won four of its last six games, including a 3-1 win over Sacred Heart in the consolation game of the Frozen Holiday Classic.

Dan Parkhurst (play-by-play) and Ken Hodge (analyst) will call the game from Agganis Arena in Boston, Mass.

CSN CHICAGO & CSN MID-ATLANTIC TO PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE WINTER CLASSIC REGIONAL COVERAGE

CSN Chicago and CSN Mid-Atlantic will provide comprehensive regional coverage leading up to and through the Winter Classic on New Year’s Day.

CSN Mid-Atlantic will provide expanded game-day coverage on New Year’s Day, including a 90-minute Winter Classic Pregame Live at 11:30 a.m. ET, and a one-hour post-game show. In addition, CSN Mid-Atlantic will look back at the 2011 Winter Classic between the Capitals and Penguins, and present Building of the Bridgestone Winter Classic, giving viewers an in-depth look at the logistics and preparation involved in hosting one of the NHL’s marquee events.

CSN Chicago will air extensive pre- and post-game coverage around the Winter Classic, beginning with Blackhawks Pregame Live at 11:30 a.m. CT. In addition, CSN Chicago will present a new edition of Blackhawks All-Access, taking viewers behind-the-scenes as the team prepares for the Winter Classic.
