STAMFORD, Conn. – Oct. 27, 2014 – NBC Sports Group’s NHL coverage features three matchups this week on NBCSN, highlighted by a Wednesday Night Rivalry showdown between Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals and Jimmy Howard and the Detroit Red Wings, this Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET. Coverage on Wednesday begins at 6:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN with NHL Live.

This week’s NHL coverage begins tomorrow night on NBCSN at 7 p.m. ET with Milan Lucic and the Boston Bruins hosting Zach Parise and the Minnesota Wild, and concludes Saturday night at 10:30 p.m. ET, when Logan Couture and the San Jose Sharks host John Tavares and the New York Islanders. NBCSN will also feature college hockey coverage on Friday night at 8 p.m. ET, between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Vermont Catamounts.

NBC Sports Live Extra – NBC Sports Group’s live streaming product for desktops, mobile devices, and tablets – will provide live coverage of Wild-Bruins, Red Wings-Capitals, Islanders-Sharks, and Vermont-Notre Dame.

NHL game coverage begins Tuesday and Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. ET with NHL Live, NBC Sports Group’s NHL pre- and post-game studio show. Kathryn Tappen anchors Tuesday’s coverage alongside analysts Mike Milbury and Keith Jones, while Liam McHugh hosts Wednesday’s coverage with Milbury, Jones, and TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie, who joins NBC Sports Group this year with more than 35 years of hockey reporting experience.

 

WEDNESDAY NIGHT RIVALRY: RED WINGS AT CAPITALS – WEDNESDAY AT 7:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The Red Wings and Capitals enter their Wednesday Night Rivalry matchup with identical 4-2-2 records to start the 2014-15 season. The Capitals are coming off of a 4-2 loss to the Canucks in Vancouver on Sunday, while the Red Wings look to rebound after a 4-2 loss against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night. Last season, Washington took two of three games from Detroit in their season series, but all three games were decided either in overtime or a shootout.

Emmy Award-winning play-by-play commentator Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick and Emmy Award-winning ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Pierre McGuire will have the call from the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.

 

WILD AT BRUINS – TOMORROW AT 7 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

NHL coverage this week begins tomorrow at 7 p.m. ET, as the Boston Bruins host the Minnesota Wild in an interconference matchup. The Wild (4-2-0) have allowed just six goals in six games to start the season, the fewest by far in the NHL, heading into their matchup tonight against the Rangers in New York. The Wild are coming off a 7-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning, in which Parise, who leads the team with eight points (3g/5a), added a goal and an assist. The Bruins (5-5-0) are looking to build off of a 4-1 victory in Toronto on Saturday night, led by Dougie Hamilton’s three-point game. Last season, the Wild and Bruins split their season series, with each team winning at home.

Dave Strader (play-by-play) and Brian Engblom (analyst) will provide live commentary from TD Garden in Boston, Mass.

 

ISLANDERS AT SHARKS – SATURDAY AT 10:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

The NHL’s two highest-scoring teams will face off on Saturday night on NBCSN, when the New York Islanders travel to San Jose to face the Sharks at 10:30 p.m. ET. The Islanders (6-2-0) have gotten out to a hot start, thanks to a prolific offense that has scored at least four goals in five of its first eight games. The Sharks (5-4-1) defeated the Anaheim Ducks 4-1 on Sunday afternoon, snapping Anaheim’s seven-game winning streak. In addition, both teams boast three players among the top 20 in scoring this season (NYI – John Tavares, Brock Nelson, Kyle Okposo; SJS – Patrick Marleau, Logan Couture, Brent Burns).

Randy Hahn (play-by-play) and Jamie Baker (analyst) will call the game from the SAP Center at San Jose in San Jose, Calif.

COLLEGE HOCKEY – NOTRE DAME VS. VERMONT – FRIDAY AND SATURDAY ON NBCSN AND NBC SPORTS LIVE EXTRA

NBCSN’s coverage of the 2014-15 college hockey season continues with a two-game series this weekend featuring the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (4-2-0) and the Vermont Catamounts (4-0-0). The first game will air on Friday night at 8 p.m. ET on NBCSN, while Game 2 of the series will stream exclusively on NBC Sports Live Extra at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday. Notre Dame enters this weekend’s series following a sweep of Niagara by scores of 6-3 and 7-0. The Catamounts have won four straight games to open their season, including a 2-1 win over UConn on Saturday night.

John Walton (play-by-play) and Anson Carter (analyst) will have the call from Compton Family Ice Arena in Notre Dame, Ind.
