COMCAST SPORTSNET NAMES CHICK HERNANDEZ CO-HOST OF ‘SPORTSTALK LIVE WITH BRIAN MITCHELL’

LONGTIME NETWORK HOST, ANCHOR AND REPORTER TO JOIN MITCHELL ON WEEKNIGHT TALK, DEBATE SHOW BEGINNING SEPT. 1

Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic has named its longtime host, anchor and reporter Chick Hernandez co-host of “SportsTalk Live with Brian Mitchell,” the weeknight talk and debate show that is presented live at 10 p.m. and as encores multiple times daily. Hernandez will officially assume his new role Sept. 1.

Hernandez will join Mitchell – who has been featured on the program since it launched as “SportsTalk Live” in January 2012 – to deliver a fast-paced rundown of opinion, analysis and debate for a half-hour each weeknight. Hernandez, who has covered Washington/Baltimore area sports for two decades, will combine with Mitchell, whose career as a pro athlete and commentator spans nearly 25 years, to bring significant experience and knowledge to “SportsTalk Live with Brian Mitchell.”

“Chick has made major contributions to our network, and to the region’s overall sports coverage, for a long time, which has earned him the trust and respect of sports fans and his colleagues,” said Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic President Rebecca Schulte. “Adding his skills and experience to a platform that already features Brian’s unique perspective and passion will result in a very entertaining and informative show.”

A native of Silver Spring, Md., Hernandez is Comcast SportsNet’s longest-serving news anchor and reporter, having joined the network in 2001 when it launched its news division. Overall, he has covered the region as a sports anchor and reporter for more than 20 consecutive years, beginning with WTTG-TV in 1994. A multiple Emmy Award-winner, Hernandez has contributed to Comcast SportsNet’s coverage of every team and sporting event in the region during his 13-year tenure.

Hernandez will continue to serve as host of the network’s award-winning “Redskins Kickoff” and “Redskins Postgame Live” programs, which feature Mitchell as an analyst. Rob Carlin, who contributes to the game-day shows as a reporter, will now serve as the network’s Redskins television beat reporter for its daily news programs, including Geico SportsNet Central. Hernandez served in that role for the last two seasons and will continue to contribute to Redskins news coverage.
