STAMFORD, Conn. – February 17, 2014 – Last night’s primetime Olympics on NBC (7-11 p.m. ET) averaged 21.3 million viewers and a 12.1 household rating/19 share – more than doubling the combined primetime viewership and household rating of ABC, CBS and FOX (9.9 million viewers and 6.0 household rating), according to live plus same day fast national data released today by The Nielsen Company.  In addition, last night’s viewership was up 11% from the comparable Sunday of the last European Winter Olympic Games (19.2 million for Torino in 2006) – marking the ninth time in 10 nights that NBC’s Sochi viewership topped Torino.

Last night’s 12.1 household rating topped Torino (11.6 household rating/18 share) by 4%.  The comparable Sunday for 2010 Vancouver Olympics averaged 23.3 million viewers and a 13.2 rating/21 share.

  • Sunday’s live NBCSN coverage (6 a.m.-3 p.m. ET) averaged 2.6 million viewers more than tripling the comparable Sunday for the network’s coverage of the 2012 London Olympics.  To date (from Sat., Feb. 8 through Sunday, Feb. 16), NBCSN is averaging 1.8 million viewers for its live coverage (6 a.m.-3 p.m. ET) – more than doubling the net’s London Games average for the same time frame (776,000 viewers).
  • After two Saturdays and two Sundays of competition, NBC’s weekend daytime viewership is averaging 11.6 million viewers – the best average to this point for a Winter Olympics weekend daytime since the 2002 Salt Lake City Games. NBC’s Sochi weekend daytime viewership is up 23% from Torino (9.4 million viewers) and up 5% from Vancouver (11.1 million viewers) for the comparable days.
  • To date, a Winter Olympics-record 5.7 million hours of video have been consumed on NBC Olympics’ digital platforms – 80% via live stream.  The remaining video viewed is from NBC Olympics’ exclusive highlights.  The most popular exclusive highlights on NBCOlympics.com are as follows: 1. Russian speed skater Olga Graf’s wardrobe near-malfunction– 2.6 million views; 2. Russian Police Choir performs Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” in Opening Ceremony – 1.7 million; 3.
