NBC Sports Live Extra to Live Stream More Than 1000 Hours — Every Sport, Every Competition, Every Medal — To Verified Cable, Satellite and Telco Customers

NBC Olympics Highlights and Results App to Serve as Preeminent Primetime Companion, Featuring Schedules, Results, and Highlights Of Memorable Olympic Moments

SOCHI, Russia – February 4, 2014 – As part of NBC Olympics’ comprehensive coverage of the XXII Olympic Winter Games from Sochi, Russia, NBC Sports Digital is providing two mobile/tablet apps that will surround the Games with live streaming content and up-to-the-minute news, enabling viewers to get inside the Sochi Games with unprecedented access to information right at their fingertips. A completely re-designed NBC Sports Live Extra app and a new NBC Olympics Highlights and Results app – both enabled by Adobe – will further enhance viewing and maximize consumption of the Winter Olympics. The new iterations of the apps will provide on-the-go users with a state-of-the-art experience and access to more coverage of the Winter Games than ever before.

The NBC Sports Live Extra app, which annually streams more than 5,000 hours of NBC Sports Group programming from NBC, NBCSN and Golf Channel, will allow cable, satellite and telco customers to live stream more than 1,000 exclusive hours of Sochi Olympics content, including all sports, all competition and all medal events. The second app, NBC Olympics Highlights and Results, will be home to up-to-date TV and online streaming schedules, live results, athlete profiles and replays of the Games most memorable moments. In addition, through the “Primetime Companion” section, the app will serve as the signature second-screen tool for NBC’s nightly primetime coverage.

The NBC Sports Live Extra and NBC Olympics Highlights and Results apps are enabled by Adobe and available now on select Android handheld and tablet devices within Google Play, on the App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, and available to download from the Windows Phone Store on Windows Phone 8 devices.

“Olympic fans will now be able to take the Winter Games with them wherever they go,” said Gary Zenkel, President, NBC Olympics. “Whether you want to lean in and move from live event to live event, or lean back and let the Gold Zone take you to where the excitement is soaring, or catch up on the moments that everyone is talking about, the NBC Sports Live Extra and NBC Olympics Highlights and Results apps will truly put the Sochi Games in the palm of your hand.”

NBC SPORTS LIVE EXTRA

For the first time ever, the NBC Sports Live Extra app will live stream every Winter Olympics competition. In all, the app will live stream more than 1,000 total programming hours, including all 15 sports, the awarding of all 98 medal events and exclusive event rewinds. NBC Sports Live Extra will also live stream the Olympic content that airs on NBC and the four NBCU cable channels carrying coverage of the Sochi Games — NBCSN, MSNBC, CNBC and USA Network. The app will also feature full event replays, exclusive highlights, events schedules, TV listings, and customizable event alerts.

In addition, customers can access digital-only original programming, including Gold Zone and Olympic Ice. For more information on these programs, click here: http://nbcsportsgrouppressbox.com/2014/01/08/nbcolympics-com-to-offer-original-digital-only-programming-for-sochi-games/

Enabled by Adobe Primetime, NBC Sports Live Extra will provide multiple concurrent streams for select sports, such as skiing (each discipline), snowboarding (each discipline), and hockey (both arenas). For example, during a session of skiing, instead of viewing only a single feed that moves from event to event, a user can choose to watch a stream dedicated to a specific discipline, such as the long jump or half pipe.

The vast majority of live stream content on NBC Sports Live Extra will only be available to verified cable, satellite or telco customers. In order to access the live stream content, existing cable, satellite and telco customers should follow these verification procedures (note: customers must subscribe to a TV package that includes specific NBCU networks dependent on their cable provider):

  1. Download the NBC Sports Live Extra app
  2. Open the app
  3. Tap on a live stream
  4. Select your cable, satellite or telco provider
  5. Enter the username and password that corresponds with your account
  6. Upon verification of your subscription to an Olympics-eligible package, you will be signed in throughout the Games on that device.

Customers with multiple devices should repeat the procedure on each device. Access to this content is free for customers as part of their video subscription — there is no additional charge. For customers who do not have a username and password, they should contact their cable, satellite or telco provider to create one. More information about the process, including contact information for cable, satellite and telco providers, can be found at http://www.nbcolympics.com/liveextra/help.

NBC OLYMPICS HIGHLIGHTS AND RESULTS

While the NBC Sports Live Extra app serves as the mobile and tablet home for live stream content, the NBC Olympics Highlights and Results app is the home for everything else Olympics. The NBC Olympics Highlights and Results app is the exclusive home for NBC Olympics’ award-winning coverage, including short-form highlights, television and streaming schedules, and NBCOlympics.com columns. The NBC Olympics Highlights and Results app provides real-time official event results, medal winners, interesting facts, team rosters and bios on Team USA Olympians for the most comprehensive coverage of the Sochi Games.

The NBC Olympics Highlights and Results app is the ultimate second-screen experience for NBC’s nightly primetime Olympic broadcast. Users can immerse themselves in the Winter Olympics viewing experience with trivia, polls, slideshows, videos and athlete bios all synced with what is being presented on NBC.

As a complement to the NBC Sports Live Extra and NBC Olympics Highlights and Results apps, a third app, the NBC Sports Talk app, will be home to all of NBC Olympics blog coverage. The NBC Sports Talk app features multiple sport and category specific blogs, including Olympics Talk and ProHockeyTalk.

In addition to the NBC Sports Live Extra and NBC Olympics Highlights and Results apps, NBC Olympics will surround the 2014 Winter Games and offer U.S. viewers robust coverage of the Sochi Olympics via a myriad of social media platforms and programs, including the inclusion of social media segments during NBC’s nightly primetime broadcasts.

THE OLYMPICS BEGIN FEB. 6, 2014

With more Winter Olympic events than ever before, competition for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games from Sochi, Russia, will begin one day prior to the Opening Ceremony. As a result, NBC will begin its primetime coverage of the 2014 Sochi Olympics on Thursday, February 6, one night before the broadcast network provides its traditional coverage of the Opening Ceremony on Friday Feb. 7. This marks the first time NBC will air Olympic primetime coverage before the Opening Ceremony. The primetime broadcast on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, is scheduled to include competition in snowboard slopestyle (men’s and women’s), in which two-time gold medalist Shaun White will compete in the slopestyle’s Olympic debut; team figure skating, which is also in the Olympics for the first time; and women’s freestyle moguls.
