NBC SPORTS GROUP ANNOUNCES MLS COVERAGE PLANS FOR 2014 REGULAR-SEASON
41-Match Regular-Season Slate Includes 38 Games on NBCSN & 3 on NBC
NBCSN Kicks Off Season on March 8 Featuring Seattle Sounders FC v. Sporting Kansas City
Stamford, Conn. – November 25, 2013 – NBC Sports Group, in its third season of its partnership with Major League Soccer, will air 41 regular-season games across NBC and NBCSN in the 2014 season. NBC will present three regular-season games, and NBCSN will air 38. The 2014 MLS season kicks off March 8 on NBCSN with a matchup of 2013 MLS Playoff teams as the Seattle Sounders host the 2013 Eastern Conference Champion Sporting Kansas City.
Highlights of NBC Sports Group’s 2014 MLS coverage include (full schedule below):
- Classic rivalry matches on NBCSN including the Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders FC on April 5 and the California Clásico featuring the San Jose Earthquakes and LA Galaxy on June 28;
- Doubleheader action on the 4th of July as the Houston Dynamo host the New York Red Bulls; and the LA Galaxy host the Portland Timbers on NBCSN;
- The San Jose Earthquakes will host the first-ever event in the new Levi’s Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers, when they face the Seattle Sounders FC in Santa Clara, Calif., on August 2 on NBCSN;
- In addition, NBCSN will showcase all the action from around the MLS on August 2 and September 20 with MLS Breakaway, the special “whip-around” show featuring multiple live look-ins to regional broadcasts of matches.
COMMENTATORS: NBC Sports Group’s Major League Soccer announce team is comprised of lead play-by-play announcer John Strong, former U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder and analyst Kyle Martino, former English footballer and analyst Robbie Mustoe, former Jamaican National Team player Robbie Earle, and host Russ Thaler. Arlo White, NBC Sports Group’s lead play-by-play announcer for its Premier League coverage, will continue to work on select MLS regular-season and postseason games.
