Yahoo! Sports-NBC Sports Network Remains Most Popular Digital Sports Destination in September

The Yahoo! Sports - NBC Sports digital network was the No. 1 sports destination on the web in September, according to data provided by comScore. The network delivered its best September ever in visits (118.4 million) and live video minutes viewed (116.7 million). The figures were up 64% and 40%, respectively, vs. September 2012.

The Yahoo! Sports – NBC Sports digital network continued its No. 1 ranking, which has existed since comScore began tracking Yahoo! Sports-NBC Sports as a combined entity in March 2013:

  • Yahoo! Sports - NBC Sports Group has been the most popular web destination for seven straight months1
  • Yahoo! Sports - NBC Sports Group has experienced seven straight months of continuous growth in total minutes2
  • Yahoo! Sports - NBC Sports Group has continued to grow for five straight months in continuous visitation1

Following are platforms and properties that had their best month ever:

  • More than 100 million live video minutes viewed: With the return of Sunday Night Football and the new addition of the Premier League, September live streaming smashed NBC Sports Digital records, as there were 116.7 million live minutes watched and 5.3 million live starts. The month passed NBC Sports Group’s previous record in February 2012, driven largely by Super Bowl XLVI, which was the first-ever live stream of a Super Bowl.
  • ProFootballTalk in uniques (10.1 million) and visits (31.9 million).
  • MotorSportsTalk in all key metrics.
  • Rotoworld in all key metrics, led by 6.9 million uniques in September.
  • Golf Channel: Golfchannel.com, the digital platform for one of cable’s fastest growing networks, also drove record digital gains:
    • Golf Channel.com had its best October ever in page views and uniques, with 20.4 million and 2.1 million, respectively.
    • Golf Channel mobile recorded its best month ever in page views and uniques, with 17.1 million and 345,000, respectively.
    • The 2013 Presidents Cup on Golf Live Extra was the best Golf live stream ever in September and second-highest overall with 574,000 live starts and 13.7 million minutes watched. (The 2013 US Open holds the overall record with 585,000 live starts and 14.2 million minutes.)
    • NBC Sports Regional Networks in visits (17.7 million), page views (32.5 million) and video starts (8.7 million).

  • Earlier this week, NBC Sports Live Extra, the NBC Sports Group’s live streaming product for digital, mobile and tablets, began live streaming NBCSN’s The Dan Patrick Show to participating cable, satellite and telco providers via “TV Everywhere.” The Dan Patrick Show -- the renowned sports television show and syndicated radio program starring Football Night in America co-host Dan Patrick -- is the first NBCSN original program to join NBC Sports and NBCSN live-event programming in NBC Sports Live Extra’s robust live streaming portfolio.   • NBCOlympics.com, America’s premier Olympic digital destination, re-launched Tuesday, October 29, 100 days from the start of the Sochi Winter Games, which begin February 6. The site will serve as the preeminent destination for Olympic content and the exclusive home of Olympic video coverage, featuring, for the first time, live streaming coverage of all Winter Games competition, plus event rewinds and extensive video highlights. Like no other event to date, the Olympic Games have been, and continue to be, a watershed moment for “TV Everywhere” helping to drive awareness and usage.

Following the tremendous momentum generated by the 2012 London Olympics, the new iteration of the site has a state-of-the-art design to maximize user consumption. It will provide comprehensive coverage of all 15 sports, results, and schedules as well as athlete bios and news leading up to and during the Sochi Olympics. NBCOlympics.com will also feature multiple tools to foster social engagement for what promises to be the most social Winter Olympics ever, including a social media feed that will aggregate athlete generated messages and help fans participate in the Sochi Olympic conversation.   • NBC Sports Group, in partnership with the NHL (National Hockey League), enlisted Hollywood director Bobby Farrelly for its multi-platform marketing campaign to promote the 2013 NHL Thanksgiving Showdown featuring the Original Six match-up of the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins on Friday, November 29 at 1pm ET on NBC. The campaign, which includes three 30-second TV commercials and an extended version to run online, will debut during tonight’s Wednesday Night Rivalry broadcast, featuring the Bruins and the Penguins, at 8 p.m. ET on NBCSN.
