World Series of Fighting: Future Champs Premieres Two New Episodes Back-to-Back Episodes on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET on NBCSN
Stamford, Conn. – September 12, 2013 – World Series of Fighting (WSOF) returns to NBCSN this Saturday, Sept. 15, at 9 p.m. ET in the promotion’s fourth show of 2013 with a top card of top-level mixed martial arts (MMA). In addition, World Series of Fighting: Future Champs premieres two new episodes back-to-back Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. ET on NBCSN.
The main event features a heavyweight tilt between two-time WSOF veteran and former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei “The Pit Bull” Arlovski (1-1 WSOF, 19-10 MMA) of Minsk, Belarus, and elite kick boxer Mike “MAK” Kyle (20-9-1) of San Jose, Calif. A former King of the Cage light heavyweight champion, Kyle makes his WSOF debut against Arlovski, who in his first WSOF appearance scored a TKO win over Devin Cole. Arlovski had built a four-fight win streak before suffering a loss to Anthony “Rumble” Johnson at this past March’s WSOF 2 event.
The co-main event features a middleweight contest between two-time World Series of Fighting veteran David Branch (12-3) of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Brazilian jiu-jitsu and judo black belt Danillo “Indio” Villefort (14-4) of Coconut Creek, Fla. Branch looks to extend his two-fight winning streak against Villefort, who is currently 5-1 in his past six fights.
In a second heavyweight bout, Rolles Gracie (8-1) of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, faces Derrick “Caveman” Mehmen (15-5) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Gracie, the son of “the father of modern jiu-kitsu” Rolls Gracie, has won all eight of his fights by submission. Mehmen, an American Top Fighter, makes his heavyweight debut with a three-fight win streak and ten knockouts. In an additional middleweight bout, The Ultimate Fighter 7 finalist with a six-fight win streak Jesse “JT Money” Taylor (26-9) of San Diego, Calif., steps into the cage against Elvis “The King” Mutapcic (13-2) of Des Moines, Iowa, who boasts a five-fight win streak and was a champion in Canada’s Maximum Fighting Championship. Taylor holds championship belts for Europe’s Cage Warriors Fighting Championship and Australia’s K-Oz Entertainment.
The featherweight competition features Waylon Lowe (14-4) of Philadelphia, Pa., and Georgi “Insane” Karakhanyan (21-3-1) of Riverside, Calif. This will be Lowe’s second fight under the World Series of Fighting banner after his first ended in a first round knockout win over Cameron Dollar. Lowe has won his past four fights by knockout. Karakhanyan, a former professional soccer player, is on a seven-fight win streak.
