2013 STANLEY CUP FINAL NOTES & QUOTES

Game 6

NEW YORK – June 24, 2013 – NBC Sports Group continued its exclusive coverage of the Stanley Cup Final tonight with NHL Live on NBC Sports Network from 6:30-8 p.m. ET, followed by game coverage on NBC at 8 p.m. ET.

Emmy Award-winner Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick (play-by-play), Eddie Olczyk (analyst) and Emmy Award-winner Pierre McGuire (Inside-the-Glass analyst) called the game from TD Garden in Boston, Mass.

At 6:30 p.m. ET, NHL Live began with 90-minutes of pre-game coverage from TD Garden. Russ Thaler, Anson Carter and Jeremy Roenick hosted the first 60 minutes from outside TD Garden. At 7:30 p.m. ET the show moved inside where Liam McHugh was joined by analysts Mike Milbury and Keith Jones.

NHL Live (6:30-8 p.m. ET)

Mike Milbury on Bruins G Tuukka Rask – “Rask is a cool customer. I think he will be fine tonight.”

Mike Milbury on Bruins C Patrice Bergeron – “For a private guy, this is a very public moment. About 19,000 sets of eyes on Patrice Bergeron. We will see if he has got the strength and stamina to overcome whatever it was that ailed him. The Bruins really need his presence in the lineup, because he fits in to every situation. His quiet leadership has been visible during every series.”

Keith Jones on Blackhawks RW Marian Hossa – “Marian Hossa is back and is moving. He is not at the same pace we are normally used to, but he is putting his nose in there. He will need to have a big one here tonight for the Hawks to seal it.”

Game (8 p.m. ET)

Doc Emrick – “The Stanley Cup will be going to Chicago. Either with the Blackhawks tonight or for a presentation to someone after Game 7. If it’s needed here tonight, if the scoreboard warrants, it will be here but fashionably late.”

First Period

Doc Emrick on Bruins RW Jaromir Jagr – “He is 41. He was a teenager when he first played for the Stanley Cup and won it twice with Pittsburgh.”

First Intermission

Keith Jones on Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews – “He was out there for 6:09. No fear in Jonathan Toews. That’s a good sign for the Chicago Blackhawks.”

Second Period

Doc Emrick on goal scored by Jonathan Toews in the 2nd Period – “Chicago has counted on their captain so much, he has tied it.”

Doc Emrick on the cuts on Bruins RW Nathan Horton’s face – “They are the marks of a Canadian youth.”

Doc Emrick on the Stanley Cup Final – “Five Americans on both teams. An international cast. All of them battling to have Louise St. Jacques sometime in September put their name on a 120 year-old trophy.”

Eddie Olczyk on Blackhawks D Duncan Keith – “Duncan Keith has had a world class type game here in Game 6.”

Emrick on the condition of the ice at TD Garden- “When we began, the humidity was 51%. A good range is in the 40’s. The humidity is now 87%.”

Intermission

Mike Milbury on Bruins D Zdeno Chara – “This guy tries so hard. His confidence is just shot and his decision making is off.”

Mike Milbury on the ice at TD Garden – “You mention the ice surface. You can’t get around it now. The puck is bouncing around like a beach ball. It has become a real factor.”

Mike Milbury on Blackhawks C Patrick Kane – “I look for Patrick Kane to step up in the 3rd Period. If you give Kane and inch, he will take a mile.”

Third Period

Doc Emrick on the 3rd Period – “If you are new to this, what do you think of it? If you have been around, well then you are loving this. Unless you are a fan of one of these two teams, and then it is just too much. But you would stay around anyway, because they are your teams.”

Doc Emrick on the Blackhawks two goals in the 3rd Period – “Two goals in 17 seconds. From a 2-1 deficit to a 3-2 lead.”

Eddie Olczyk on Blackhawks C Dave Bolland –“It’s like a yard sale. He loses both gloves and a stick.”

Doc Emrick on the 2013 Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks – “The Blackhawks are Stanley Cup Champions. An electrifying finish to this contest tonight, but for the home team tonight, disappointment.”

Doc Emrick on the Chicago Blackhawks – “Bloody but unbowed and raising the cup. This time is going quickly for these Blackhawks, but they are making a lot of memories right now.”

Post-Game

Liam McHugh on Jaromir Jagr – “The Chicago Blackhawks are your 2013 Stanley Cup Champs. As for the Bruins, you have to wonder if Jaromir Jagr played his final game tonight?”

Mike Milbury on the Blackhawks – “I was shocked. I was shocked that it was that easy for them to get back in it.”
