TONIGHT, May 24
Coverage of the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs continue tonight with the Pittsburgh Penguins hosting the Ottawa Senators in Game 5 (Pittsburgh leads 3-1). The Penguins can win the series and move on to the Eastern Conference Finals with a victory. Kenny Albert will call play-by-play alongside analyst Brian Engbom from Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Coverage begins on NBC Sports Network at 6:30 p.m. ET with NHL Live hosted by Liam McHugh, Jeremy Roenick and Keith Jones.
SATURDAY, May 25
NBC presents Game 5 between the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks in primetime at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday (Detroit leads 3-1). A win for the Red Wings would allow them to advance to the Western Conference Finals. Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick will serve as play-by-play announcer and will be joined by analyst Eddie Olczyk and Emmy Award-winning ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Pierre McGuire at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich.
At 5:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network, the Boston Bruins host the New York Rangers as they look to close the series with a win (Boston leads 3-1). Dave Strader will manage play-by-play alongside analyst Brian Engblom from TD Garden in Boston, Mass.
Coverage begins on NBC Sports Network at 5 p.m. ET with NHL Live hosted by Liam McHugh, Jeremy Roenick and Keith Jones.
VIEWERSHIP
Last night, NBC Sports Group aired three NHL Stanley Cup Playoff games:
- Bruins at Rangers (OT) aired on CNBC from 7-10:03 p.m. ET;
- Blackhawks at Red Wings aired on NBC Sports Network from 8-10:47 p.m. ET; and
- Sharks at Kings aired on NBC Sports Network from 10:47 p.m. – 1:28 a.m. ET.
From 8-10 p.m. ET, Bruins-Rangers and Blackhawks-Red Wings aired simultaneously on CNBC and NBC Sports Network, respectively.
- The overlapping NHL games from 8P-10P on CNBC and NBC Sports Network drew a combined audience of 3.314 million viewers.
o This combined NHL audience ranks #1 on cable in the time period among average viewers, P18-49, and P25-54.
o NHL on CNBC and NBC Sports Network combined to rank as the most-watched programs on television from 8P-10P among key male demos.
- With 1.260 million M18-49 and 1.253 million M25-54, the NHL games outperformed NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX.
o Viewership was +46% above the CNBC/NBC Sports Network combined audience during overlapping Semifinal games in 2012.
- Game 4 of Chicago/Detroit on NBC Sports Network (8P-10:47P) drew a 1.14 US HH rtg, 1.756 million average viewers (+45% from NBC Sports Network’s 2012 Semifinal Games 4-5 average).
o With a 1.14 US HH Rating, last night’s Chicago/Detroit game ranks as NBC Sports Network’s highest-rated Semifinal game ever and the highest rated on cable since 2000 (Colorado/Detroit 5/1/00; 1.28 US HH rtg)
o Among M18-49 and M25-54, NBC Sports Network ranked as the most-watched cable network from 8P-10:45P.
o The game peaked with over 2.5 million viewers (2.570) from 10:30-10:45P.
- Game 5 of San Jose/Los Angeles on NBC Sports Network (10:47P-1:28A) delivered a 0.62 US HH rtg, 995,000 average, the most-watched of the series to date.
- Game 4 of the Boston/NY Rangers series on CNBC (7P-10:03P) posted a 0.74 US HH rtg, 1.365 million average viewers (+207% from CNBC’s 2012 Semifinal average).
o Among P18-49 and P25-54, CNBC ranked as the #4 most watched cable network from 7P-10P.
o CNBC was a top 3 cable network in the 7P-10P time period among M18-49 (#1) and M25-54 (#3).
o The game peaked with over 2.1 million viewers (2.190) from 9:15-9:30P.
Local ratings:
- Chicago received a 10.04 HH rating, the highest local rating ever in the market for an NHL Semifinal game on NBCSN. The game was +43% from the Blackhawks’ 2010 Semifinal exclusive average on NBCSN in the market (7.04).
- NBC Sports Network was the #1 rated network overall in Chicago during the 8P-10:45P time period.
- Detroit received a 12.35 HH rating, +15% from the Red Wings’ 2011 Semifinal exclusive average on NBCSN in the market (10.78).
- NBC Sports Network was the #1 rated network overall in Detroit during the 8P-10:45P time period.
- Los Angeles posted a 2.41 HH rating, the highest local rating ever in the market for an NHL Semifinal game on NBCSN. The game was +51% from the Kings’ 2012 Semifinal average on NBCSN in the market (1.60).
- NBC Sports Network was the #1 rated cable network in Los Angeles during the 10:45P-1:30A time period.
- San Jose drew a 3.99 HH rating, +10% from the Sharks’ 2011 Semifinal exclusive average on NBCSN in the market (3.63). In comparison to Games 1-4 of the series on NBCSN, Game 5 was +51% (3.99 vs. 2.64).
- NBC Sports Network was the #1 rated network overall in San Jose during the 10:45P-1:30A time period.
- Boston received a 13.46 HH rating.
- CNBC was the #1 rated network overall in Boston during the 7P-10P time period.
- New York averaged a 2.81 HH rating.
- CNBC was the #1 rated cable network in New York during the 7P-10P time period.
