ORLANDO, Fla. (April 1, 2013) – Golf Channel and NBC are launching an expansive, company-wide initiative honoring fathers and father-figures across America.
Throughout the spring and leading up to Father’s Day on Sunday, June 16, Golf Channel will celebrate the special connection between fathers and their children. The campaign will honor four lucky fathers and their sons or daughters with trips of a lifetime to Philadelphia to compete in the Golf Channel Father’s Day Open – a celebrity-filled tournament on Monday, June 10 – along with a week-long experience at the 2013 U.S. Open Championship at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa.
“Golf has played such an important role in enriching father-son and father-daughter relationships,” said Golf Channel Senior Vice President of Marketing Regina O’Brien. “We want to bring these special relationships to light and celebrate those important bonds, and are excited to kick off this campaign to honor dads and father-figures across America through the great game that we love to play.”
Golf Channel’s Father’s Day campaign kicks off with the launch of the Father’s Day Sweepstakes on GolfChannel.com – GolfChannel.com/Fathersday – where viewers are encouraged to upload their favorite photo with their father or father-figure via the microsite or through Instagram. Photo submissions are entered into the daily sweepstakes, which include the opportunity to win daily tee times for two at a golf course of their choice on the GolfNow platform. Submissions are entered into the grand prize sweepstakes, which will award four winners with a “Father’s Day Trip of a Lifetime” with their father or father-figure to Philadelphia for the 2013 U.S. Open at historic Merion Golf Club. The all-expense-paid, grand-prize trip will include the opportunity to compete in an exclusive, celebrity-filled Golf Channel Father’s Day Open at Philadelphia Country Club on Monday, June 10; passes to the U.S. Open Tuesday-Sunday; round-trip airfare to Philadelphia; hotel accommodations; rental car; two Golf Channel Father’s Day Prize Packs and $500 spending cash. Winners will be chosen at random both for the daily prizes and grand-prize sweepstakes. The Father’s Day Sweepstakes runs through Sunday, May 5, when the four grand-prize winners will be selected and announced the week of May 6.
Beginning Monday, May 13, Golf Channel and GolfNow will offer weekly “Deals for Dad” that will be available on the Father’s Day microsite, where consumers will have the opportunity to purchase Father’s Day gifts and golf-related Father’s Day packages. New deals will be available each week through Father’s Day.
The Father’s Day Sweepstakes will be supported by a multi-media, national campaign designed to celebrate and honor fathers and father-figures across America. As the fastest growing network on television, Golf Channel will celebrate Father’s Day with special Father’s Day-themed programming during U.S. Open week, including stories from players and celebrities sharing their best Father’s Day moments and memories.
Golf Channel is scheduled to air 42 hours of live news coverage on-site from the U.S. Open in the form of its Live From the U.S. Open news franchise Monday-Sunday, June 10-16. NBC will air 18 hours of live tournament coverage Thursday-Sunday. ESPN also will air early round coverage Thursday and Friday.
