Excerpts from Legends: 2012 San Francisco Giants:

Jeremy Affeldt:

On being down 0-2 to the Cincinnati Reds: “We had nothing to lose. We’re down 2-0 and the thought process is that if we’re going to go down, we’re going to go down fighting, so I’m going to give it everything I got.”

 Buster Posey:

On Hunter Pence’s pregame speech in Cincinnati: “I’d never seen anything like it. It was a little scary to be honest with you. His eyes were about to pop out of his head. He was pacing all around and you understood right there what this game means to this guy and he understood the opportunity that he had and that we all had.”

 Tim Lincecum:

On Hunter Pence’s leadership in the playoffs:  “I had never been on a team where someone took it upon themselves to voice their opinion and their passion for the game. He was playing for that next day, just to be with us.”

 Mike Krukow:

On the Marco Scutaro, Matt Holliday incident in the NLCS: “The Scutaro, Holliday incident flipped the series because everybody in that Cardinal uniform knew it was wrong. Everybody.”

 Barry Zito:

On his Game 5 performance in the NLCS against the St. Louis Cardinals: “Game 5 for me was just a career changing start. It’s kind of funny how something so big can hinge on one game but in retrospect, it can.”

On the character of the 2012 Giants: “That was the theme of the 2012 Giants: persevering, overcoming that adversity and really letting our characters shine through because we’re not going to give up for anybody and we’re not going to listen to the naysayers. We’re just going to listen to the voice in our heart that tells us we have strength beyond our own and we’re going to keep going.”

 Ryan Vogelsong:

On his preparation for his NLCS start: “I can remember standing in my backyard, throwing the ball up and going ‘Game 7 of the World Series, 3-2, 2 outs, bases loaded’…I just had this feeling that I can’t be nervous, I can’t be scared because this is what I’ve been waiting for, this is why I play this game.”

 Bruce Bochy:

On the rain in the ninth inning of Game 7: “It’s like the baseball Gods were saying, ‘Hey, we did this for you guys,’ and they were washing us with just a beautiful shower.”

On Barry Zito’s start in Game 1 of the World Series: “He got us off to a great start against a guy who, really, all the baseball experts didn’t give us a chance to beat. With Barry on the mound against [Justin] Verlander, Barry Zito set the tone for that World Series.”

On the team’s resilience throughout the season: “There were times when we were written off early in the season with the Dodgers, when they made that blockbuster trade, when we lost Melky Cabrera. It’s all about pushing forward and the guys did a great job about it. I’m as proud of that as anything, these guys never say die.”

 Following the March 17 (7:30 p.m.) debut, Legends: 2012 San Francisco Giants re-airs on March 23 (4:30 p.m.), March 28 (3 p.m.) and March 31 (9 p.m.). Visit CSNBayArea.com for additional air times and dates.
