Second Fight Night Broadcast on NBC In Four Months

Live Broadcast From The Theater at Madison Square Garden

NEW YORK – February 20, 2013 – NBC Sports Group’s Fight Night boxing series will return to NBC on Saturday, April 20 at 4 p.m. ET, with a live main event featuring Tyson Fury  (20-0, 14 KO’s) vs. Steve “USS” Cunningham (25-5, 12 KO’s), from The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y.

The special two-hour afternoon presentation of Fight Night on April 20 will be the second Fight Night broadcast on NBC in four months, and only the second boxing broadcast on NBC since 2004. In addition, the broadcast will be the 10th edition of Fight Night since the series debut in January of 2012.

“The Fight Night series has been a tremendous success for the NBC Sports Group, and it has allowed us to use both our broadcast and cable assets to support the sport of boxing,” said Jon Miller, President, Programming NBC and NBC Sports Network. “We were very pleased with the response to the previous Fight Night broadcast on NBC and look forward to a terrific match between two talented fighters.”

“Giving Steve the opportunity to fight on NBC again, in a bigger venue, after his controversial decision loss to Tomasz Adamek, is what Main Events and Fight Night are all about,” said Kathy Duva, CEO, Main Events. “Steve put on a fantastic performance against Adamek and deserves to be rewarded with this fight. We also get to introduce Tyson Fury to the American public in a true crossroads match.”

Former Irish, Commonwealth and British Heavyweight Champion, and current No. 9 IBF contender Fury takes on former cruiserweight World Champion and current No. 12 IBF contender Cunningham in a 12-round IBF Heavyweight Voluntary Eliminator fight for the No. 2 IBF position. The winner of Fury-Cunningham will meet the No.1 IBF contender to establish the mandatory challenger for Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko’s next fight.

NBC Sports Groups’ Fight Night broadcast team of Kenny Rice (play-by-play), Hall-of-Fame boxing trainer Freddie Roach (analyst), cruiserweight contender B.J. Flores (analyst) and Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix (reporter) will call the action.

About Fight Night: NBC Sports Network’s Fight Night series is collaboration between NBC Sports Group, Main Events and Hall of Fame matchmaker J Russell Peltz. The series premiered on January 21, 2012.
