ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 20, 2012) – Coming off a successful 2012 fantasy golf season that drew a 200 percent increase in the total number of players over its inaugural year in 2011, Golf Channel continues the momentum with the launch of the 2013 Fantasy Challenge.  The 2013 game features new enhancements, weekly prizes, interactive capabilities and – for the first time – expanding to include the five Major Championships on the 2013 LPGA Tour schedule.

Registration is free and is now open for the 2013 season by visiting GolfChannel.com/Fantasy.  The season begins at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions (Jan. 4-7) and concludes the week of the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola (Sept. 19-22).  Fans have the opportunity to join a league or play individually against fantasy golf enthusiasts from around the country and against Golf Channel’s team of experts.

For the first time, the 2013 Fantasy Challenge also will expand to the LPGA Tour to include the Tour’s five Major Championships – the Kraft Nabisco Championship, U.S. Women’s Open, RICOH Women’s British Open, Wegmans LPGA Championship and Evian Masters.  The 2013 Fantasy Challenge also will include several top events on the European Tour, beginning with the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and continuing with the Commercialbank Qatar Masters, Omega Dubai Desert Classic, BMW PGA Championship and the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.

How to Play Fantasy Golf Challenge:

Every Monday during the season, registered players will receive an email alert that the tournament field has been set and to make predictions prior to the start of tournament play.  Each week, fantasy enthusiasts will select four players from four groups (one per group).  The groups are designated via the Official World Golf Rankings, with the highest ranked players in group A and lowest in group D.  Scores and rankings will coincide with the monies won by the respective players chosen for each tournament.

Enhancements and Improvements:

Mulligans: Opportunity to use one mulligan to drop the lowest weekly score per segment (2013 Fantasy Challenge is broken up into three segments).

New Interactive Capabilities: Opportunity to share weekly selections and interact with fellow players – and Golf Channel experts – on Twitter and Facebook throughout the year.

2013 Prizes:

Weekly Prizes: Three weekly winners will receive gift cards from Dick’s Sporting Goods, including $100 for first place and $50 for second and third.

Segment Prizes: The 2013 Fantasy Challenge will be broken down into three segments: Kickoff, Spring and Summer.  The top-three finishers from each segment will receive a new hybrid golf club.

The Top 10 Overall Prizes: The top-10 overall winners across the entire season for the Fantasy Challenge will receive a new driver.

Grand Prize Winner: The grand prize winner for the 2013 Fantasy Challenge will receive a golf trip for two including round trip airfare, hotel, rental car and $500 in spending cash.

Expert Picks:

Golf Channel’s team of experts will reveal their weekly fantasy selections every Wednesday on Morning Drive throughout the 2013 season. Morning Drive and Golf Central also will update viewers on the Fantasy Challenge leader board each week during the season.
